  • The section along the ridge towards Brickworks has got unbelievable views. I’ve only done it walking but it’s a good track. You’d be fine on anything over a 35c tyre.

  • I've ridden that. Can confirm steepness, I had to walk a bit.
You can access the park from the west: Cross the bridge over the canal just south east of Davenport Golf Club. There's a turnstile gate which is hard work but I got through.

  • Anyone been over Cut Gate recently? Was thinking about heading up there on Wednesday but if it’s a giant boggy mess then I might make other plans.

  • The moors out that way were very dry when I was walking up at Stanage and Shatton Edge last week and there’s not been much rain since.

  • Good intel, cheers!

  • I think I'm only going to have one day to ride while up there this week, so predictably planning on doing this route. Probably Friday to avoid most of the weekend walkers, is that a good idea? What am I looking at, time wise, 2-2.5hrs?

  • The leaflet says 3+ hrs.

  • Keep an eye on Keeper of the Peak for trails info. Most recent mention of Cut Gate is that it's "pretty much perfect".

  • Oh good account to know, cheers. Cut Gate it is then.

  • I’d say 2.5 if you push it and you’re used to riding loose rocky mad steep trails !

  • Well, it's certainly bloody hilly round here, isn't it?! Managed that loop in 2hrs 26m, and not ashamed to say I had to walk up a fair bit of it. My brain is frazzled from concentrating on the descents

  • Ah, proper Peak District weather!

  • The whiteout fog at the start was 👌

  • Decent time I’d say and virtually everyone walks bits of the hills round here. I used to think I was just rubbish at climbing until someone pointed out that everyone walks the hills I was struggling on!

  • Looks like a good day out! I was up over at Curbar/Froggat on foot yesterday and it was bone dry. Saw a few people out on the bridleway having a good time. Spotted my first ever adder too. Sadly at the end of it's life having been clipped a car.

  • Well, it's certainly bloody hilly round here, isn't it?!

Have you spotted any peaks yet?

  • Nice bike. Route looks good too. That the one you listed above? Happen to have it i a more useful format than pdf?

  • I followed this route, which is basically the same as the PDF until the very end. I deviated up to the top of Kinder, round the back, and came back down joining up to the same route - https://ridewithgps.com/routes/34066468

  • Looks meaty, will give it a shot, cheers.

  • After eating at 10pm then getting to bed at 2.30am I somehow woke with the 6am alarm but did some house jobs before heading out just after 8am.

Decided to go via Poynton instead of Adlington- allowing me a taste of the spring classics with a
level crossing stop then a very short cobbled section.

I'd also decided to ditch Windgather and go via Pike Rd then head over the c&f for a short loop around the lanes there to Langley. A missed turn and a nice lane saw me almost reach Allgreave before thoughts of time pressure made me check maps and turn north again.

I dropped to Macc to cut a bit of likely climbing but the main road soon sent me scurrying to the lanes. Found one off the lower Cat but it didn't look roady when I got to it (Higher Fence Rd?) so I returned to climb more Cat to the next lane then home via Kerridge again.

Pretty much everyone waved back today.

Jersey quote spot on. Stats show I went too deep on one of the early climbs... #novice

  • Good route? Got a GPX?

  • The guy who mans the crossing at Norbury Hollow appears to have the most chilled out job in the world.

Annoyed I can’t work out the location of your second pic.

  • I'll have to trim it to remove home, but yeah can share. I'd avoid detour to Macc and one or two of the lanes were very potholey with loose surface/ debris. Always nice to be out that way though.

  • I told him i'd love his job. He said everyone says that.

2nd pic was near where I turned back north, so near to Allgreave, Nabs Rd.

  • Nice route that. I'll be out next Saturday, with a stop at 10am for a covid jab, then back to it....... hopefully.
