Iran’s second place in the 2017 Tour is an anomaly, his usual place is in the lower reaches of the top ten. I can’t see that changing at this point in his career.

I think Froome was announced as their road captain, which I found quite odd given his reputed naivety.

For example, I remember reading that at the peak of his career he didn't know who most of his GC competitors were, and couldn't pick them out in the peloton.

That’s mainly because they were usually behind him when it mattered.

I wouldn’t read anything into Froome being named as road captain. It’s just PR to justify his inclusion in the team.

Similar but no I don’t think he’s a serious competitor to do any real damage. He’s in good shape but at Suisse he didn’t seem to have any punch to get away from carapaz

its true, he didn't watch any of the Giro but yes he will be commentating on the TDF so I presume he will be watching it then.
