It's above the Gurgl (the Gurglbach) which is a river. Hence the name. Like Henley-on-Thames.

I've stayed in Obergurgl before.

There's some bonkers riding around there - if you head down the valley and then up to Kuhtai, the descent down towards Innsbruck is fucking mental.
