Insurance and resale are the big ones. Definitely get insurance quotes ahead of time so you can work out the sums.
Pretty sure last time I looked at it the import fees and any conversion bits still meant it was cheaper for the actual car. But as you have to pay insurance every year you own the car it's a huge part of the maths.
If it's Japanese I'd be surprised if parts were an issue.
what are the downsides to buying an import?
Is insurance more expensive, or is it just availability of parts?
