My "peak power" is shit.
-
• #4053
Mine too. We’re lucky hill climbing isn’t about peak power. I race at ~135% FTP for 4 mins.
-
• #4054
My 4 minute power is also shit. I'm shit. I'm going to rub my face in a macaroon.
(I'm not, I'm getting back on the regular training vibe which will help with power and power:mass issues. I couldn't think of the best way to address my issues around fitness)

Regular training vibe is where it’s at.
Having said that I’ve gone backwards with my last two ramp tests so 🤷♂️
-
• #4056
oh wait. Should I do a ramp test?
-
• #4057
YES. I know I should do a ramp test.

Yeah, that’s an ugly workout.
If you don’t have sprinty legs, it’s awful.
Even if you have sprints legs, it’s awful. My 45s max is 280% of my ftp, maybe only because my FTP is complete rubbish at the moment.
Legs felt ruined the last time I did that workout though.
I think the criticism of the Zwift plan is that it didn’t seem very focussed on increasing FTP, with lots of sprints, anaerobic work built in.
I did 2 sets of the FTP booster plan back to back and got really good gains, so reckon it’s worth sticking to it.

Anything over 150% of FTP on a turbo is vile imo. Even if it’s a burst interval.
Doing it outside is completely different.

You might find day 3 worse!
15 minutes tempo,
1m 150%,
1m 50%
30s 170%
30s 50%
15s 200%
45s 50%
10s 200%.X 2.
I guess a kind of race finish simulation?
I quite enjoy this kind of effort personally. -
• #4061
Yeah, I'd already seen that. The 4x10s @ 175% on day 1 seemed relatively fine, so I've no idea how 200% would feel over that sort of duration.
Checked my power curve on Strava and that has 1 min at 135%. Definitely seems low (and I was certainly trying), but it was set on the short climb towards the end of Zwift's Innsbruck after busting a lung for 20 something mins up the main one.
Gonna knock 15% off my FTP and try day 2 again this evening. That should be about 150% for the 45s efforts.

Zwift workouts don't make any sense to me when I compare them to e.g. the suggestions in the Allen & Coggan book.
I thought this was an interesting examination:

Interesting watch, thanks. He doesn't seem to have much love for TR plans either.

Don’t think trainerroad gets much love from any coaches?

Following on from my post here, I opened it up and the belt was sitting out of line on the wheels and worn, with the side panels had obviously been rubbed by the belt (see attached). Belt conditioning spray seemed to solve the issue for a couple rides but then the squeak came back. Opened it up and the belt was off-line again, as before. Additionally the belt conditioner had coagulated the rubber dust into a nice glue that had filled the wheel belt notches, so that had to be removed. Still not fixed so I ordered a new belt.
It arrived today and it fitted easily but again kept coming off-line after a few rotations. I put on my detectivepantshat and have now discovered the source of the issue: the drive wheel (?) is wonky (see attached video) meaning on each rotation the belt is pushed out, so the notches align incorrectly on the flywheel and get stuck there.
This is clearly a warranty job as it requires replacing the drive wheel with one that isn't bloody bent. Unfortunately I am the second owner of this turbo, and it is several years old. I have no idea how the mug of a previous owner put up with the squeak for so long without trying to get it fixed, but now it's my problem. Any suggestions that aren't paying Garmin's extortionate fuck-you repair fee?

I just got a smart trainer and figured i might give zwift a go… I’m not sure it’ll be my thing but I’m keen to see what all the fuss is about. Does anyone have a code for a longer trial than the 7 day standard?

I can pick up a suito-t for 450 euro's new in the box. Seeing as I'm whining about no time to ride with kids, is the suito-t still a decent option?
-
• #4068
Yes but I'm not dcrainmaker or whoever reviews all of these things.
It's been good for me - has all the adapters you need for QR/Thru axle bikes and all of my things play nicely together (Power2Max with TrainerRoad in mostly ERG mode).

thanks! I know sound is a personal thing but do you reckon it would be possible to ride one in the same room as someone watching tv?
-
• #4070
They would have to be very understanding. Once you eliminate trainer noise you realise how loud drivetrain noise can be and your own whimpering and panting.
-
• #4071
Or I can sell it as "white noise" for the baby?
The whimpering and panting would be harder to sell
-
• #4072
Link to segment please. I need an excuse to ride outside.

But since the discussion you refer to, two on here Grupetto types have set a new PB and are now first and second on the club leaderboard.
-
• #4075
Damn those Grupetto types
Yes I agree, but it's still 1 minute maximal effort versus 4 min 30 in one session.
Sounds grim to me.
