  • We lost a couple of lettuces when we looked the other day. Didn’t have time to drop by over the weekend so assume the rain has bought the slugs out in force.

I see a lot of nets/fruit cages around our site and on here. Are there particular crops that def do/don’t want to be netted?
Just thinking about construction projects for next year.

  • We’ve netted our salad stuff, carrots and brassicas, but that doesn’t stop slugs as they’re in the soil burrowing about

Brassicas def do - pigeons will strip the leaves of a whole crop down to skeletons within a day or two.

and I was just thinking about all the time, effort and money I've spent devising and building effective crop protection :(

One thing to consider is apart from keeping things out is being able to get in to tend and harvest the crops . It can be a pain getting all the protection off and then back on again just for a bit of broccoli in February.
