Yes, that's pretty much it. You're paying for professional childcare. They won't do all the practical house/family chores an au pair helps out with.
Last time I spoke to someone who employed one I was in my teens and it wasn't really appropriate to ask what they paid. But they did reference them having to have their own studio in the house.

Mind you, I don't actually know what nannies do. Is it like childminder and private tutor combined? Or is there more to it.
