  • The Socialist Party of Norway has pushed through legislation that abolishes the requirement for a special health certificate/test for drivers older than 80. The current legislation means you at a certain age (80?) you will need a doctor's certificate stating that you are still fit to drive. Also, the doctor may refer you to re-take your driving test if they are in doubt. Not sure of the percentage, but a good chunk of senior drivers end up loosing rather than renewing their license after this test.

The Socialist Party however, states that:
"[The current system has] selected group of people and put them to a test no one else is exposed to. This is stigmatizing and the most important reason why we wanted to remove the rule, says the party's transport policy spokesman Arne Nævra."

The Google Translate link works reasonably well.

  • About 10 years ago my wife, son and I got back to Heathrow after an overnight flight from the US, my 85 year old dad was waiting in the drop zone to take the bags. My son and I said we.d get the tube home so my wife could jump in with my dad.

We were home about a hour later, my wife arrived about two hours later still. She called us both cnuts, said she’d never had so many near death experiences and that driving around the M25 at 30 mph wasn’t fun.
