All the Covid wfh seems to slow down some government work. Had to update driving license before Covid it was a week, now, well... seems not.
Trying to get mot tests is another tricky one. They no longer send reminders for some unknown reason luckily I got one...

Sadly this requires somebody at the DVLA reading and approving a doctor's medical report so I don't think there are any shortcuts.

Awww come on, that was never against the rules!

I would guess from this that people in the EU are now a good deal healthier. :)

That was just stuff that the fat UK
ex patsimmigrants were eating and drinking along the Costa del Sol. Soon enough they'll all be kicked out and be back in blighty to enjoy their new restricted movement. -

The issues originate with Brexit. The DUP backed the UK’s departure from the EU, torpedoed Theresa May’s proposed Brexit deal and paved the way for the rise of Boris Johnson, only to be betrayed by his promise to not impose trade checks in the Irish Sea.
With many unionists blaming the DUP for the own-goal – and loyalist protesters taking to the streets – Poots and others in the party staged a putsch against Arlene Foster in April.

That article (which I suspect is using made up sources, that web site has form) is so infuriating if you take it as true.
I thought that while we were in the EU, Brits could only spend 180 days a year (in two stints, seperated by 90 days) in any EU country anyway...unless they negotiate a residency permit or other immigration status. Thats all that freedom of movement entitles you to by default...
But yeah, sourcing and accuracy aside, third country nationals being treated as third country nationals shouldn't be a shock to people who understood what Brexit actually means.

I find it so frustrating they can find people to deport / send threatening letters to them, but not to send a "hey don't forgot to apply!" letter :/
-
• #30263
As if even that would be enough. Vulnerable people need proactive support, not just letters. We'll see the effects of this played out for years, I fear.
What is most infuriating is that there are people warning about this, and they have been for years, and still the HO sticks to its idiotic decisions (such as no paper evidence of Settled Status), creating problems on the back of those unfortunate to be caught up in its machinations.

Hasn't the settled scheme worked out fairly ok? 5m applications, 97% approved first time.
Why do we laugh at the costa del sol morons, are they not vulnerable people 😏

I don’t really know the details of these numbers but all I could find was this link:
- As of 31 December 2020, just under 5 million (4,916,280) applications had been received, with 90% received in England, 5% in Scotland, 2% in Wales and 2% in Northern Ireland.
... - Over 4.5 million (4,514,250) applications had been concluded up to 31 December 2020.
- Of the concluded outcomes, 54% (2,432,940) were granted settled status, 43% (1,949,950) were granted pre-settled status and 3% had other outcomes (including 34,240 refused applications, 47,870 withdrawn or void applications, and 49,210 invalid applications).
So is that 97% of 4.5/5 => 90% => 87% ?
(Happy to be corrected as only skimmed it)

Fairly ok isn't good enough if it's that or illegality.
Windrush V2 incoming.
I don't laugh at the misfortune of Brits abroad.
Note the Dutch government sent people letters and delayed the deadline. Here? Cha...

Agree that's not enough, but even the bare minimum of sending easy cases information is not met. They don't even use known records... So it all comes down to charities / councils.
And yes the digital only status is a very bad idea, Australia took 8 years at least to go digital. Here it's just pushed through...
Perhaps once it starts to go wrong an outcry will cause a u turn but it's not looking good at the moment...

There are more recent figures here https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/eu-settlement-scheme-quarterly-statistics-march-2021/eu-settlement-scheme-quarterly-statistics-march-2021
'As seen in Figure 1, as of 31 March 2021, just over 5.3 million (5,301,470) applications had been received, with 90% received in England, 5% in Scotland, 2% in Wales and 2% in Northern Ireland. Since the launch of the scheme, October 2019 saw the highest number of applications received (591,580) and the highest number of concluded applications (401,480).
Just under 5 million (4,977,740) applications had been concluded up to 31 March 2021.
Of the concluded outcomes, 53% (2,623,720) were granted settled status, 44% (2,173,270) were granted pre-settled status and 3% had other outcomes (including 55,950 refused applications, 60,170 withdrawn or void applications, and 64,580 invalid applications).'

Brits abroad have been constantly mocked on this thread/forum. This will continue when the first ones are shipped back because they failed to fill out the correct form because they don't speak the local tongue.
I was adding the overall figures to the discussion because they are useful for balance and I do think processing double the expected number of applications to be doing OK.

Or even "You have been claiming benefits for n years and so are on the list of people here and are registered as settled".

Sore winners.
I spent the extra £4 odd and went to the post office, license returned in a week. I tried a few times online and had payments pending on my bank account despite the process failing every time.
