This is a pair of lockdown projects that I undertook with my friendly local bike mechanic, to come up with a couple of high-spec, well-priced all-around bikes from a combination of parts in my spares box and parts sourced with the mechanic's help. Pretty much everything is as new or actually new.
Both can be a high-spec tourer, urban bike, gravel bike, unsuspended/hardtail mountain bike or commuter bike, depending on how you set it up. One I would classify as a small, the other a medium size-wise. Both of these steel frames have been to the frame builder for a check (and the Kona modified for disc brakes), then resprayed, paired with the correct length rigid OS disc forks and put together as flat-bar triples. As priced, these are without pedals (but I can supply).
While I fully realise that most of the people who frequent this forum could put something similar together for less money, given enough time, I'm hoping that the cost/spec might be appealing for someone you might know who's not such an expert, but on the lookout for a nice, affordable bike that's pretty much new, without having to wait for months. I can swap contact points to adjust the fit for anyone roughly in the size range, and have lots of other options available (mudguards, panniers, clipless or flat pedals - tools, pump, lights - pretty much anything a newbie could need apart from helmet and shoes).
Based N. London, happy to answer any questions. More pics available on request.
On-One Inbred Steel MTB, Medium, black - £700
Specs:
The frame has a 16" (40cm) seat tube and a 23" (58cm) virtual top tube with a 10.5cm head tube. It's been set up with the bars as high as possible, so there's plenty of scope for adjustment to get the fit right for someone between around 5'6" and 6'. The bike comes with 26" wheels, but there's ample clearance for 650B (27.5") and maybe even 29" wheels, with relatively narrow tyres (35mm?) would also work...

Kona Fire Mountain Steel MTB Small, duck-egg blue - £700
Specs:
Based on a refurbished Kona Fire Mountain steel MTB frame (have pics of frame before if needed) that's had disc brake mounts added to the rear triangle plus new cable guides, then been powder coated in a textured, sparkly duck egg blue/grey - hard wearing and looks amazing.
The frame has a 16" (40cm) seat tube and a 21" (53cm) virtual top tube with a 9cm head tube. There's plenty of scope within the existing set-up for fitting to someone between around 5'4" and 5'10. The bike comes with 26" wheels, but also appears to have enough clearance for larger size wheels if desired...
