Did milkmen ever go away in London? Had the same one for 16 years, although the company has changed several times.

(South) Ruislip was, of course, the headquarters of Express Dairy.
Imagine my confusion, on crossing the border, to Ickenham, to attend secondary school, and finding they did not use electric milk floats in that otherwise innocuous suburb -

Full of electrons, floating in and out of existence in a graviton field of probability. It’s what make things snap, crackle or pop, depending on when you observe the interaction.

left it in the sun
and in the winter we had to dig it out of the snow ...

The old police lamp is swinging so here's a tale from my early days at Wokingham.
A new kid on the block started a milk round on a new housing development and was potentially taking business from the established Milky. Cue multiple thefts of New Kid's milk from doorsteps in the area.
He was trying to make a new business work so once he'd heard about it he doubled his efforts to be the best. Cue multiple thefts of New Kid's milk and return of now severely off New Kid's milk to those doorsteps.
There was no evidence* to prove who was doing it but there were a couple of suspects from the local milk depot (less than a mile away). Once the depot boss was informed of the alleged shenanigans and realised the implications of this "milk war" on an established, local company's reputation the feud ended.*CCTV didn't exist nor did social media and I certainly couldn't devote any time to cracking the case.

Today was the first time I'd heard the words " desire line " -
in this context anyway and got them twice.Oliver - With some thought, they could easily have worked out that this would be a pedestrian desire line, but nobody spent any time on it.

Thanks
Here's one created by the increase in walkers going to and fro over the Common to the woods exactly one year ago today.
A social distance desire line.

One of my mates growing up worked on a milk round in Battersea, he was absolutely fucking minted as a result... Bought a motorbike when he was 15, could only ride it in the alley behind his house til he was old enough to get a licence... He continued to chase money in life and did very, very well for himself...

Is that Polish Peter? Lovely man, he kind of just vanished... Lovely to see Joe Smiff too!
I've never had electric milk, why does it float?
