Bad traders

  • Yeah I've come to realise that all these issues must have happened in transit not him knowingly selling it to me in that condition
So I retract my precious claim that he must have know

  • We've all had trades go wrong, it's the response that makes a bad trader or not.

  • nothing says 'credible story, definitely true' like creating a sockpuppet account to come to your own defence. power move.

  • Absolutely and totally 100% agree with all of this. Probs posted 100 frames easily and always pack as you described. Never had one arrived damaged yet (although have probs fated it now).

That frame is fucked. If was that way before being sent and photos or damage werent sent to the buyer or if damage happened during transit its totally the sellers resp to sort out.

  • Excellent first post....

  • 2 quid each into the buyers paypal for the entertainment of the thread would get close to £150?

  • Oh bless you for thinking that would swim, @jesus_romario

  • Careful folks, might be a false flag.

  • Or a false false flag. Triple cross.

  • Having sold 2 bikes on the forum in the last few months I was absolutely paranoid about packing. I sent the buyers pictures as they were being packed to make sure the buyers were happy.

  • This made me paranoid too so i went out today to grab a load of extra foam and cardboard tubes to pack the shit out of the one I'm selling off the back of this and will now be documenting the entire packing process. So thats my evening entertainment sorted 👍

  • Shocking to say at least...

Was the saddle removed from the Seatpost?

Was the frame padded adequately AND wheels braced in the right manner?

  • Guessing the seller will never login again

  • Saddle was still on seatpost. Thought I'd at least use it on my other bike until I kept hearing clicking noises and after inspecting saw the front bit (underneath the nose of the saddle) was broken and moving, then later on when going to change over the saddle I noticed all the cracks. The clamp on the carbon rails was done up suuuper tight, so again presumed this was a feature that the seller didn't tell me about, but we'll never know if it was transit that did it.

In my eyes no, but the seller might not have realised how much padding/securing a bike really needs, to withstand the brute forces couriers apply to parcels, and the anger that courier workers release onto the packages they handle.

An update: seller has contacted courier to see if anything can be done, hoping something comes of it, but we shall see. As stated previously, I was wrong in saying that the seller knowingly sent the items in the condition I received them (the saddle being the cherry on top of all the other problems)
Seems like transit did a number on the bike.

I feel it's likely nothing will come from the courier, and the seller has established that he doesn't feel that it's right to reimburse anything, so all that can be done is to move past it. At this point dwelling on it is just draining

So lessons to be taught from my mistakes are:
Insure you bike postage, try keep to PayPal wherever possible, and make sure you check the seller packages the items you order how you see fit.
No matter how many good experiences of LFGSS one has, it should not be expected, and you should be diligent in making sure certain things are done.

  • This is how I received a Genesis that I paid 125 quid for last week.

  • Wanna swap? Hah

  • How would you post a full bike you'd sold for north of 1k?

Given it was listed on a UK site when you live in Norway, you'd think you would give a little thought to how it's packed, as your only option likely is posting the fucking thing.

  • good thoughts.
I feel for you, as such a frame would have a been a treat, and to be getting it just before summer, wow.

I have sold and bought a number of frames internationnally, personnaly i always go through ebay and the global shipping program if i am ok to send it abroad, as insurance is automatic and you are only ever responsible for the frame to reach your country's despatch depot.
I would even endeavour the thought of putting it on ebay for a closed bid just to use the service.

  • Don't worry, I feel bad enough for myself, no one else has to feel for me, but I appreciate it

I know right, one of my dream frames too. I guess at least most of the parts are still usable and I can put into another build once I have the disposable income for another frame

  • If it makes anyone feel any better. I once received some forks which weren't as described. Seller claimed they must have been damaged in transit and opened an insurance claim with parcel force. Parcel force wouldn't deal with me, only seller, and by the time I got any resolution PayPal dispute had expired. Seller got a payout (I think) based on all the evidence I documented, and then when totally quiet, never responded again. I could have probably tried to get reimbursed but couldn't be fucked for £300 and the forks are still actually useable.

You can do everything right (tracked, insured, PayPal) and it still go wrong.

  • You can do everything right (tracked, insured, PayPal) and it still go wrong.

    How's that?

You didn't meet the terms of the service you paid for.

    Entirely down to you.

Sincerely, I'm sorry you lost out; but to suggest that you're blameless and that it might be worth cutting corners when trading is not on.

  • Well, the reason I didn't meet the terms of PayPal is because parcel force took it over 90 days to resolve the insurance claim (which I couldn't easily chase as they'd only work with the seller).

Not saying you shouldn't do insured or not use PayPal. Just saying it still doesn't work out sometimes.

As I said, probably still could have resolved it somehow but was well over it.

To be clear, wasn't an LFGSS seller.

Was just trying to make buyer (Z4k) feel a bit better...

  • Mate, I feel ya.

You are aggrieved and pretty right too.

Thanks for the update and do give the guy another chance.

This is the wild wild west BUT we've also seen many amicable and at times over and beyond outcomes come out of it.

  • Appreciate it 21. Personally been a sceptic about postage insurance anyways as from friends experiences the amount of evidence and work to actually get anyone back makes it super difficult and pretty unlikely to resolve

The initial shipping quote the seller found was £400 for TNT/FEDEX so for him to come back with £60 from somewhere else (apparently Norway -> UK postage ain't cheap) I just didn't even think about asking for insurance

Shame you couldn't sort it in the end

But I can relate the part about just wanting it to be over. Rather than try fight the seller further for money or attempt any other APP claim/legal route people suggested, I just wanna to move past it
Shame it's the way it is. But thats the way it is

  • Well, the reason I didn't meet the terms of PayPal is because parcel force took it over 90 days to resolve the insurance claim (which I couldn't easily chase as they'd only work with the seller).

This is where you went wrong, I'm afraid.

Your insurance (PayPal's Buyer Protection), is entirely unrelated to and not contingent upon the seller's insurance (Parcel Force's Goods in Transit).

Put another way, whether or not the seller's insurance pays out (or whether they even have any), makes no odds to PP and shouldn't influence your decision to claim.
