  • I've got the X-track race, good quality, weight and 'action'. Obviously no one's ever had any problems with Shimano PD-Ms but I wanted to try something different. And I would buy again!

  • There appears to be no replacement for the touring range, particularly the RT5s. Found some 43s, have hoarded!

  • Crystal Palace to Harlow.

    Odd route! New commute?
The drop off the horse trail into Harlow is lovely.

  • Those are touring shoes. This is about GRAVEL shoes.

  • But pretty much any road shoe can be converted to SPD with a Shimano SM-SH41 SPD Cleat Stabilising Adaptor. Not to be confused with previous SM-SH40 which fell apart by all accounts. Here they are on another pair of Fiziks:

I can't believe anything about Harlow is lovely

  • The beauty of the touring shoe is that it does everything, commuting, road and GRAVEL without actually looking like MTB shoes, god forbid. Also I walk a fair way at work post commute so need recessed cleats.

  • I have a significant soft spot for that place. Despite everything.

  • These are my go to grav shoes, scott comp mtb £35 thank you very much and not too fugly.

  • I’ve been using the x5s with the old forum-favourite Time ATAC pedals for many years, I have he latest iteration X5s as well as an older pair for bad weather - this wearing-down-the-sole thing is not something I’ve personally experienced, and I do 6-8000km per year on them.

  • Honourable mention should go to the Fizik Terra Gravita or whatever they’re called - X5 level stiffness in a vibram sole trainer lookalike. Ideal for pairing with a flannel shirt.

  • Do you know where you can get them in the UK? I had a similar thing with some LGs and now I cant find them, bought my last pair from Canada which was not half as cheap.

I like the look of the Scotts if I could find them in the UK.

  • if you can't provide a link to them for £35 then you have to sell us your pair at that price, that's the rule

  • I got 2 pairs from I think treadz about 18 months ago. Start fitness have them, but they’re £49 on there, still worth that price though

  • these look/sound great. 45mm seem huge there? how do they measure up?

  • I’m beginning to wonder if I was only charged for 1 pair now :/ The first pair lasted around 5,000 miles before I lost them, the second ones are still going strong at around the same mileage. If you can find the first pair they are yours of £35, hell you can have them for 35p. They are somewhere between Southwold and Norwich…

  • Star Fitness is in Luxembourg from what I can see. My feet are a funny shape so I don’t need another pair of shoes that don’t fit.

  • Bloody hell they are too, I saw the cycle to work logo so thought they were uk based

  • Not sure but the Checkpoint managed 50mm (Maxxis Rambler) with the drop out move back a bit.

Quite happy with it, was worried it not gonna feel fast, but it did.

  • Up a big hill to get to that wall?

  • One scoblebrick is good though.

  • This has made my day!

  • Two questions, figured this thread would work best for them both:

    • does anyone know of some good gravelly bits close to Chelmsford? I've not been cycling much over the last year and would love to get back into it.
    • does anyone have any suggestions on a good/compact handlebar bag? I just need to chuck my phone and a few other bits and bobs in there, nothing too much. Would prefer over a saddle bag.
  • Handlebar bags have been discussed in the bikepacking thread I think. The Rapha one is good value for money compared to other cycling brands.

  • Did anyone get a 46T running in their RD-RX817?
