It seems I posted to an un-refreshed thread. The seller was saying there were more pics, and that the buyer wasn’t giving the whole side of the convo. I thought they should get a fair chance to share their own pics, and give their account of the transaction, because it seemed to me that they were on the back foot replying to others’ queries and posts.
That said, they later replied with what I quoted above, and additionally brought in allusions to buyer’s remorse. So they seem satisfied that they’ve spoken their piece.

Judging by the pics its hard to believe that the bike was packed well enough for transit. Axles in such close proximity to the frame should have been thoroughly covered and everything padded out to eliminate/reduce movement within the box. If box arrives beaten to shit and contents damaged then that's a different story. But if box arrives in OK condition and contents are damaged then that's bad packing and on the seller IMO.

Oh look, (insert faux shock face), a nice hole in the box where the axle is.
Like we said, badly packaged.
How do you know it's where the axle is, you may ask. Well unless you were shipping aliens, it's the only thing that would give that burst outwards appearance.

10 people all giving their opinion on how it was packaged but this is not how it was shipped.
Just to be clear; this is before you put padding in it?

There seems to be several holes, scratches and even gauges around the box. Unless the seller has pics, there’s no telling when they happened, but it could conceivably have been done in shipping. -What I mean is by something outside of the box encountered during shipping.-

This was, I believe I've binned the polistyren and its been collected today
But putting say 7 blocks of that on the outside, without anything in-between any of the components.
His defence in PMs was that he "secured" the bike bits by locking the handlebar into the frame and wheels which is the only explanation I can think of for the dents being where they are -

Really shit packaging. I buy and sell frames regularly for around £200. I ALWAYS:
Wrap all 8 frame tubes and fork individually
rigid drop out spacers
All moving parts secured
Rigid box BIGGER than the item, not sticking out and wrapped in tapefor a £1200 item this is really piss poor but at least the seller might learn something
If an item of mine arrived like that I would offer a full refund regardless of insurance. Frame is unsafe and it's a shame you only asked for £150. -

@jesus_romario I'd recommend sorting this out if you plan on selling anything else on here.

Even without added insurance, it's likely the shipping company might offer a limited amount of compensation as standard. For example Parcelforce offer £100 on the majority of their services:
https://www.parcelforce.com/help-and-advice/sending/inclusive-compensationA claim requires sight of the packaging though 😬
-
• #5661
Hard to claim lots of compensation when you've marked the package down to avoid duty fees.
This should be stickied as a "how not to do it" example from all sides.

I do find it mind boggling that the buyer was content to pay by bank transfer, with no shipping insurance on a £1000 bike to some dude in Norway who'd only posted a handful of times only in the classifieds.
Yeah this shit is fucked up

• #5663
On the other hand, if a buyer takes a gamble and bets on no issues during shipping and then there is, well that's gambling for you.

0/10 for all

Sorry, but it's totally unreasonable to expect that every Tom, Dick and Harry selling on their used bikes know how to effectively package such a complex item. Sounds to me like @jesus_romario made an effort to get the bike to @Z4k in the same condition as advertised.
Maybe a little too much faith was put into the shipping company (easily done if you're not experienced). The seller should definitely take it up with them.
Buyers should understand the risks of buying second hand and accept that shit happens in transit. If you want a pro job, go to a pro. Plenty of businesses out there selling used bikes.

I will accept that I should have not expected the seller to know how to ship an item. But I have become complacent with the level of packaging and professionalism that alot of people have on this forum. So maybe it was wrong to expect this being carried out properly, but in my opinion it's also the duty of the seller to make sure the item arrives safely...
I no longer feel that the seller intentionally cheated me in selling me an already dented frame and defected other parts. But that doesn't mean I don't feel cheated and somewhat had.
Yet life goes on and we must move past these things -

Maybe I’m not cut out for the harsh, cold, baron wastelands of the the free market which is lfgss bst
But I’d like to think if I sent something to someone and they asked for 15% off having received something that had been damaged in transit. When I was tasked with sending securely, albeit uninsured, i would simply take it on the chin.
It’s not like someone forced a European to list a complete bike on London fixed gear single speed, so maybe a little more care in packing should have been prepared for
I mean the person could take their money and hightail it out of here if they wish, the buyer done a bank transfer and didn’t ask for insurance. I’m not privy to the dms, maybe there was more detailed pics sent which showed the dents and gouges in a less favourable manner than the , rather lovely looking light room photos which make it hard, if not impossible, to see.
But the overall behaviour? that’s not cricket

Lol at the packaging. I think it goes without saying that a seller can be expected to properly package a bike. I don't think the buyer is naïve for expecting more careful packaging than this.

• #5673
actually surprised the courier didn't refuse the parcel looking like that

I don't think there were any dents or gouges, prior to shipping, at least not beyond normal stone chips etc.
If you take the broken saddle, and location of the dents on the downtube and the seat tube, IMO it looks like something heavy was stacked on top of box, but because the more rigid sidewalls didn't extend above the frame/wheels, the frame took the full weight. This meant that was jammed down onto the axle/bolts of front wheel, denting downtube. Seat tube, as mentioned earlier, explained by a loose rear wheel. -

That's precisely what has happened. I was hoping that we could come to some arrangement with a small portion of reimbursement but that wasn't achieved sadly
Sorry I should be more clear, the photo of the packaging using wheels as padding isn't how it arrived, there was some polistyren between all the bike bits and the outside of the box, but still expected slot better securing considering international shipping. No tubes wrapped ofcourse, just brick sized bits of polistyren.
You're partly right in saying the other bits were in condition that was stated, the cranks and the seat post.
I don't think I'm blowing this out of proportion being unhappy with the two dents and the other scratching/rub that it arrived with.
I think £150 is more than fair considering, as someone said, the value of the frame is like halved and unsafe to ride on, I couldn't/wouldn't in good conscience sell it on with the defects stated.
I will admit it was a good deal before, if it arrived how the item seemed in photos but now it's definitely not.
I've now been swayed by comments that maybe you didn't sell it to me knowing about these defects and hiding them (likely happening in shipping) like I thought. But what I can't understand is your lack of admission and understanding towards the situation. I have shipped things before, damaged in transit and reimbursed the individuals from a place of guilt and accountability.
Seller won't negotiate a compromise or accept wrongdoing which in my view is bad faith. Let it at least be a reminder for everyone else to get insurance on shipping and make sure that packaging is done properly and pictured before it's send.
This was how it arrived which didn't make me think it was absolutely battered, but made me slightly concerned.
Edit:
I think £150 is more than fair and I'm still being ripped off for the condition of the other items, I'd just rather be less "down" than I am, and I feel like it's a reasonable request... Am I in the wrong here or being unreasonable?
