No, not totally sure, but it’s the fact it’s not doing anything at all that makes me think it’s the compressor. It’s currently stuck in the slammed/bad boy position.

I vaguely remember a wheeler dealer episode where ed fixes a rangies air suspension. Think the airbags we're fine, it turned out to be some small part on the compressor which was under the boot floor. Was a cheapish fix when DIY. Is that an option?

I’d rather pay someone else for it to be their problem TBH.
My days of trying to fix stuff I know very little about in an attempt save a few hundred quid are long gone. Life’s to short for that shit. I’d rather work an extra day doing what I’m good at, so I can pay someone else to do why they are good at.

Fair. I have two young kids so I'm very much in the same mindset. Any spare time I have I just want to surf or get out on the bike.

some small part on the compressor
Required a replacement used compressor IIRC - no replacement seals available for the compressor piston.

Survived another great trip. Last 2 hours crossing London in midday heat with no aircon and dog in car not so much fun.

Such a fit mobile.
Is it a turbo?

I think those are the turbo wheels.

That Saab is all kinds of awesome.
The Outback has had an engine light for a while and really wanted to avoid paying the dealership prices to diagnose and fix. Turns out you can install their "specialist" software online that somebody has generously ripped and with a £15 cable read the codes yourself. It showed both O2 sensors were shagged so replaced these and it's feeling a lot better. Power and 4x4 mode are working again it's a lot smoother and generally has its mojo back. Should be a lot better on fuel economy now too, well for a 3.0l flat 6. Not the most complex job but first time plugging a laptop into the car so quite satisfying.

Good work! Those OBD2 port readers are great.

Cheers all. It's a 16v low pressure turbo converted to full pressure aero spec using all stock parts. Next step is to change the apc and fuel pump to get it to Carlsson bhp and get it on the rollers to smooth out the power delivery (as much as is possible with old tech/big turbo). Was going to lower it and fit larger 9000 tri spokes on but i'm glad i didn't as it drives really nicely as is.
My latest hobby has been seeking out factory accessories for it before they become too expensive/hard to find. Roof rack, sun visor and dog guard are genuine Saab items that have really helped keep it practical.

Nice that you're not at the mercy of the dealerships too. Have requested a quote for the work from Subaru so will be interesting how much of a saving it is.

Linky please? I'm still having an intermittent issue getting the key out of the ignition and now the key fob doesn't wanna let me in the car! Annoying...

From my internet sleuthing it seems the method can differ depending on model year... but for my 2001 Subaru Outback I bought this cable and downloaded this software using this driver. The kind folk on uklegacy.com helped a lot, so might be able to advise.

Usually that's a worn key and a close-to-death key fob battery. Replace both?
-
• #65144
I've got an OBDII thing in there already, I should probably check what codes, if any, that's throwing up first... But cheers for that!

The ignition thing is a mystery, does it with both keys completely randomly... I know because the spare was unused... Done everything apart from rip the steering column out, it's maddening...
I will change the battery but the other key has a new battery in it and that's doing the same thing... 🤯

Not sure where else to put this, but does anyone here have a recommendation for an intensive driving course for North London?

Anyone remember the name or details of that aircon guy someone recommended?
Ours is usually passable, but on a long drive the other day wasn't able to battle the 30° heat.
Want to make sure it's regassed properly as my folks had issues when kwick fit did theirs.

Probably sensible. Though I guess at some point the sunk cost fallacy comes into play.
Is it definitely the compressor? I thought it was usually the bags that went.
