Poppy people! Anyone fancy a bit of a seed swap when the time comes? Those chonky pink ones are beauties. We’ve only got orange Californian and basic red ones at the mo but planning on growing a bunch next year. Partner has become obsessed with them :D

just careful framing ;)
it's just as much a mess as before, but no longer requires back-breaking amounts of weeding to get it to that state, which is a relief.
btw I sowed some seeds saved from your african marigolds, but only 1 came up, it's about to flower. -

first of my carefully raised ones is flowering too, a rather delicate thing, these ones came up between cracked concrete around February and just kept going!

Certainly won’t say no!
Plan is to establish various poppies round the edges of the allotment and sow the surrounding dead plots with them as well.
Never been into flowers before as growing stuff has always been functional to me but for some reason we’re both super into poppies all of a sudden. -

Sounds like a plan! I also have a load of random stuff that has sprouted after falling out of the bird feeder, some of which are poppies. Will see how they turn out.

Cool! Am I right in thinking all the poppies flowering now should be dried heads aug-sept ready for collecting?
-
• #7014
Sounds about right.

The yellow ones came from some seeds my mum sent from Scotland. Have established themselves in my front garden now.

Got all of these for next year, all look like they’d rather be planted in spring than autumn tho so they can wait.

I'm on for seed swapping.
Poppy-wise I can offer traditional red poppies and the blousy Barbie pink ones pictured above.
Other than poppies, I have love-in-a-mist, hellebore and columbine seeds every year. The last two take a few years to flower though.
@hoefla yes please to the offer of sweet peas

Despite last year being great weather wise our lemon tree did nothing so we were very excited this week to see a few flowers on the way.
We live in Surrey just on the borders with SW London so i'm not expecting to be overrun with ripe lemons but a few small fruits will be fun to tend as the summer goes on

Rain is great and all, but I can't help but feel it's ended the first wave of peak aesthetic for my garden.
The roses have lost half their petals, the wild grasses are slumped and soggy, and I didn't get around to mowing the lawn on Thursday.
Frustratingly, my OH backed out on our agreement to cut the peonies this year, getting upset after cutting two stems. Those five flowers look stunning, all the sodden ones outside less so.

The rain is an investment in the garden looking ever better later on.

Yeah, I think gardening makes you Zen about weather. It’s sunny? Great, I will enjoy the garden. It’s raining? Great, I don’t need to water. It’s winter? Yay, no weeding.
Beautiful sweet peas. My memory’s getting a bit rubbish but I’m sure I was told/read/made-up that the more you cut them the more they continue to flower, fill all-the-vases!
