I got a free hat knitted by his wife when I got my Marino Polo frame many years ago.

If only he was called Marco rather than Marino. Then it'd be a Marco Polo frame.

Anyone know the model number of this Nitto saddlebag holder? Just pulled it off my wife’s Fusion where it did duty for about 20 years.
It’s designed for saddles without loops, and also to place the bag higher and further from the rider. I can’t find any current (or past) references to it, all the newer ones that kind of look like it, go underneath the bag.

Anyone know anything about mobile wifi? My plusnet is up the shitter so I’d like to get a temp solution sorted ASAP. I don’t want a contract, just a pay as you go thing to see me few a couple of days. I’ve tried tethering to my phone but for whatever reason that’s not working. I just to be able to go to curry’s or wherever and get something simple setup today.

Rescuing a seized zip, is it possible?
I have a hip pouch (Archie's, Rosie? perhaps) and the zip will not open.
It did live in a (damp) garage for a while and I think that is what did it in. -

Metal or plastic?

Junk clearance in London: who's good and will do a couple of small furniture items for cheap?
I've got a couple of things that are just too big to go on my bike down to the tip. Any recommendations would be helpful.

Most councils will collect stuff. Sometimes a charge of £20 or so.

If it is metal rub a lead pencil over it.
If it's plastic, Fairy liquid. -

Apart from This Is The Story and Sunshine On Leith are there any albums by The Proclaimers worth considering?

It's possible, I freed up a properly corroded gunky metal zip the other day.

Most of the mobile providers will do a "pay as you go" mobile wifi dongle. I think Three are the cheapest.
Alternatively, if you contract and phone allows, can you not just hotspot? 4G hotspot on my phone is faster than my Sky Broadband.

Has anybody done the Summer Cycle at Kew Gardens? Is it worth it bearing in mind the Glasshouses are closed?
-
• #108565
I'm not sure I see the point. Kew isn't so big that cycling round is necessary and it is harder to stop and look at stuff. You could also spend less to go for longer without your bike.
Standard bikes and accessibility bikes only – no balance bikes or scooters.
What about tandems, penny farthings, recumbents etc?

The metal zip on my Topeak Fuel Tank was all corroded and stuck, I rubbed vinegar onto it and it freed it up. A few zips back and forth had it working a bit better, and then I stuck some graphite (from a pencil lead) on it, zips up/along nicely now.

True. It was more just to go somewhere with the GF on the Brompton's, that would be a bit different. And I haven't been for 20yrs.

Will £100 get you an iPad that’ll do web browsing, email, video calling etc. All the basic stuff, without being shit and slow? Trying to get an iPad for my mother in law, who’s wheelchair bound with MS but happily manages texting on an old phone and laptop use.
Smartphone is a bit too fiddly/droppable (and I’m sure an iPad would be equally droppable, hence trying to give it a go for cheap).
I have a gen 1 iPad but it’s basically unusable with how slow and crashy it is - which I can’t imagine would be great for someone with impaired motor control.
Can you get WhatsApp on iPads now?

I've got a Kindle Fire tablet - you can get them for about £100, does all the things you ask for (I basically only use it for reading ebooks, occasional sports streaming and some web browsing), works perfectly, would recommend.

I don't think you'll get much that's usable for £100 unfortunately (iPad-wise that is)
Android perhaps, or Kindle as mentioned ^WhatsApp isn't available on an iPad unless the iPad also has a SIM card. Alternative is that you put a shortcut to WhatsApp web, but then it still needs a phone or other device that actually has a SIM and you're just using the web version of that account.
It's very annoying. -

No, but I assume you mean tablet. The basic 7" Samsung thing is within reach https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Galaxy-Tab-Wi-Fi-Black/dp/B01C3FHO3K/
You can use Android WhatsApp on a tablet with no SIM but you can't currently use the same account on your phone and your tablet at the same time. -

Nah, specifically meant ipad as I'm not really familiar with Android or other mobile/tablet OS.
And from my experience the hardware is sufficiently better quality that second hand is more viable. It would work for my MIL with whatsapp as she won't have it on her mobile as she doesn't have a smartphone, but has a phone to receive the code for verification (if I understand the process correctly).

I'm not sure this has ever been true. Maybe build quality but people buy apple for the OS
a £100 new tablet will be significantly better than your iPad was when it was new -

The OS seems pretty irrelevant to me, they all have basically the same UI.

If the rest of the family uses Apple it might be easier to keep her on the same ecosystem: troubleshooting, app sharing, etc etc
You’re a G, that’s the stuff!
