Oh forgot to say, bike's looking lovely, as always.

Thanks and I love Paselas too... May consider this if no obvious 40c presents itself...

Not sure what the current rate for them is atm but I am using 38mm Schwalbe G One Allround tyres. They measure up to 40mm on my 20mm internal rims. I like the on the road and off-road equally.

They do look good, pricier than the Paselas but if they're bigger: currently running 33c - or around there - so I'd want to see as much difference as possible.

+1 for these tires. Not exactly classy looking though.

Thanks for the confirmed recommendation.
Internet photo didn't look bad to me (the tan wall version), are they disappointing in the flesh? -

Thanks for sorting me out @Harry with the Look BB!

I wouldn't say so: https://lfgss.microcosm.app/api/v1/files/3de935d94368ef48d623ba50b211b88d8d59551f.jpeg
Depends on what look you want of course, they're more neo-retro than retro, if that makes sense. As are other Schwalbe tan-walls in my experience.
-
• #685
Ah yes, I see.
Your neo-retro qualification makes sense indeed...
Shame the planet X ones I have atm (can't remember the name, made by panaracer) don't come in bigger size. I love the 33 1/2 I have, bought a spare pair, they're perfect with mudguards... -
• #686
Grand Bois are made by Panaracer too, worth checking if they do something in that size. I had a pair in 650B, they were very good. Remember that Paselas tend to come up small, so the 38s might be closer to 35s...

Indeed... Try the what tyres thread, they might be able to help? I went for the G-Ones on the basis of wide, roll well on road, good for gravel (and tan), but there may be a better alternative.
Forgot to say, lovely build of course :)

38mm Paselas on 19/20mm internal width rim comes up true to size.
-
• #689
Would you happen to know if that's true for gravel kings too? Saw a guy with some of these in me commute back home tonight, tempting...
-
• #690
Erm, from memory I think so, been a few years since I used them, and vowed to never again, bitch to fit, and quite easily punctured, but that was when they first came out, and 32mm. Eventually I gave up and went back to Paselas.
-
• #691
Ah, thanks... May play it safe with Paselas then, always liked them (if I can't find something in 40c)

For what it's worth, I've used Paselas (in 28c) and Gravel kings (in 32c) and liked them both. I've done about 2000km on the GKs so far and not had a single puncture. I think I've been fairly lucky though.

Tbh I have had the opposite experience with the GKs. So many flats. Paselas for me seemed much more rugged, but I defo felt the difference in terms of rolling with the GKs feeling far more supple.
I have now become a tyre snob and rolling with Teravail (Cannonball) and Rene Herse (Oracle Ridge). Really enjoying both of them.

I have read that other people have had loads of flats with them, I wonder why I've not had the same experience? As for Paselas, I used to use them when I was riding about 40 hours per week for Deliveroo and think I had 2 punctures ever.

Agree that Paselas aren’t small any more, the narrow sizes used to be but changed them. I’m really into the WTB horizon 47c I put on the Pedersen, with tubes. Maybe they do a nice 40? People like the vittoria gravelly tyres, maybe there’s a 40ish one one of those, Mezcal or something.
I’ve been running Gravel King, the knobble one, tubeless on my MTB and they’re going flat a lot. Might just be more tape/sealant needed though.

Teravail … and Rene Herse
Living it large over there in Swedee land! I’d love some Herse but jeez the prices…

GK come up very small for me (on Mavic A319s, whatever their width is).
32s measured 28 iirc. -

Interesting!
Seeing as I’m made of money (I’m not), contrary to whinge a few moments ago, does anyone know if any uk seller has Rene Herse tyres?

http://www.svencycles.co.uk seem to have some (depending on what you want I guess)
Not quite 40mm, but I'm running 38mm Paselas on my Winston bike, love a folding Pasela, can be had for about £28.
