  • I don't think it's a very good fantasy world

Like a dagger through my heart Oliver

  • Excessive adipose tissue can block the 5G wifis.

Awkward lol. A couple of years ago, before I shifted 20kg of lard, I'd lose bluetooth signal from my phone in my bum bag to my headphones every time I leant over and my belly smothered it 😂

  • Things are now starting to suddenly make sense.....

  • Do you want an old Middle Earth role playing game?

  • Sorry. Note that I say this because I consider all the popular fantasy worlds pretty much the same, just hodge-podges of this, that, and the other, e.g. Morrowind and its mixture of steam punk, cod-Roman, and bizarre Elven civilisations.

I should say that I think there are original ideas in Morrowind, and many aspects of the game mechanics work well, with the caveat that if you know what to go for, you can unbalance the game in your favour in no time at all. There's a lot of stuff in it that just isn't thought through in that respect. I also enjoy the ongoing world-building efforts, slow though they are, by the Tamriel Rebuilt volunteers. It's not all bad. :)

I've been interested in the issue of what constitutes fantasy and what makes for a good fantasy world for a long time. Key in this is the falling-out between J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis over the 'Space Trilogy' and later Narnia, but of course the problem long predates them--Tolkien's work had many influences and partial antecedents, as did Lewis's, although in their conflict the debate probably reached its apotheosis.

Have you read 'On Fairy-Stories', 'The Monsters and the Critics', and 'Leaf by Niggle' by Tolkien? If you haven't, I'd recommend them (they're all short). The two best books on Tolkien's work that I've read also touch on it, namely 'The Road to Middle-earth' by Tom Shippey and 'Defending Middle-earth' by Patrick Curry. I can lend you all of them, if you want, but do tell me to sod off if not. :)

  • Probably--do you mean MERP? Or a computer game? I'd very much like to have an old edition of MERP; I only have the German version.

  • Not a computer game. It's some books and cardboard or something. Have a look at my recent sale thread (https://www.lfgss.com/comments/16028084/). There's a link to the same thing on ebay but I can take a pic later if you want?

  • That's exactly what I've been looking for. PM sent.

  • Very strange. I think I bought it new in the 90s in Australia (having probably confused it for something or seen it as a bargain) and it came over here with some books even though I basically have no idea what it is now. I don't even like Tolkien much. Anyway, it's yours.

  • AZ2 ended up nailing me like the first, spent the afternoon trying to sleep in a dark room with a banging headache. Feeling better again now.

  • Just had my first Pfizer. Not so eagerly awaiting feeling crap

  • The only side effect I had from the first AZ was a sore arm. Must be getting used to the needle cos I've not even got that the day after the second.

  • Mrs EB (35) had it yesterday. She's not been so bad. Slight spaced out feeling, sleepy last night. Weird dreams/very slight fever. Feels a bit wiped out today. But she says way better than she thought it would be

  • My dead arm is worse this time.

  • I’m in no way complaining, so happy!

  • That's nothing to do with the needle. I've had lots of needles (all cyclists are dopers yeah yeah) and I've never had anything this painful last like 2 days. It's quite odd.
Also finally feeling good tonight, two days after getting jabbed #1. I was fine on the first night but the whole of yesterday low on energy and went to bed early.
Tested my FTP today and I'm down 50W so clearly still not great, but I've had some IPAs so feeling pretty banging now.

  • Missus has her Michelle Pffeiffer jab soon. Let me know if any limbs fall off and how good your mind-control owner is treating you.

  • Let us know if she develops cheekbones sharp enough to shave on.

  • AZ2 manflu symptoms started to lift by about midday, so I’m hoping that’s the worst of it over. Was feeling ok until I’ve had to deal with my 3 year old being difficult and had to walk away for a bit of peace because my head is pounding. I say peace, I’m now having to listen to my shithead neighbours in their front garden and their little shit kids instead.

  • Well my arm is now hurting. Bruisey feeling at the injection site but also aching in the elbow.
Feel pretty pooped but that may just have been the beers last night. So I'll see how I feel in the morning. Only had the jab 3 hours ago so not expecting much symptoms yet

  • No need to be sorry. As far as lore and world building goes I think the Elder Scrolls leaves much to be desired. It just has a very large spot in my heart as a game I played a lot as a kid and one of the games that had the largest steer on the games that I like most today, alongside Fable and KOTOR as probably the others.

I’ve got quite a long reading list at the moment so won’t take them just yet but interested in future so will let you know. Sure we can have an interesting chat about it over a pint in future as well.

  • Never got fable tho I didn't play it for long.

  • As for injections, Pfizer the first one hurt as I was tense, the second one in the other arm hurt less. But the person injecting relax me and wouldn't inject till the muscle was relaxed enough. But I hate needles and that makes my muscle tense.
