Also worth browsing Faffers 400, if you're keen to ride in that direction. Really enjoyed the far end of that ride.

I finally got the dark jacket. It’s not wind proof. But it’s alright. Serves its main purpose.

First Audax of 2021 completed last weekend - the Pork Pie 200km, with starters and desert in the form of riding to and from the start for a total of 274km. Capitals of East Anglia 300km beckons for July.

Oh yeah, the grrl got her RRTY done.
Double winter effort due to Covid which was a bit interesting and she did two of them by herself with no hippy drafting so fair fucking play to her!

I do indeed. Did it as a 400 last year.
Mostly chilled route, though Portsmouth is not hugely fun for riding, depending on when you arrive there.
I'd try to avoid rush hour if you can, which is when we arrived having set off at midnight.
Other tips: check the ferry times, and then check them again. they throw in a little gap at random points in the day to keep you on your toes, which meant we had to hang around the terminal for an hour or so.

RE my own comment up thread, I bought one of these: https://www.provizsports.com/en-gb/classic-flexi-viz-cycling-running-belt.html
It's a bit more substantial than I'd expected, 160g and made predominantly of sort of heavy-duty elastic, seatbelt weight or more

Thanks and a neighbour to boot!
Still need domestic clearance after the NC500 -

Anyone got any suggestions for 300, 400, 600k routes that are maybe a train ride from west London to start (and preferably I haven't done before)?
Actually the Dauntsey Dawdle series done as a DIY might work but any others?

We did a nice 600 East Anglia years ago. But there’s no trains from Ealing to the Lea Bridge Road roundabout start.
-
• #10665
Adding 30k each way isn't the end of the world but it's hard enough convincing my missus to ride a 600k let alone a 660k :)

Train to Exeter or Penzance? Back to the Smoke is a 400 from Exeter, Penzance is about 200km from Exeter, maybe a bit more if you do the coast road from Land's End to St Ives.
https://hennessey.uk/ewcc-calendar/3-exeter-london-400-back-to-the-smokeThough the way out of Exeter isn't the nicest, imo, going out via Tiverton>Bampton>Wiveliscombe >Taunton is a much more interesting road.

That does look quite interesting. I normally hate taking trains to start rides but I'm now so sick of riding out of London it's the least shit option. Plus I've ridden so much of 'near London' I want to see elsewhere.

but I'm now so sick of riding out of London it's the least shit option
I've lost all motivation for this including short rides

Same. I basically ride turbo now. 15 years of cycling across and out of London and all the shit I copped with it finally took its toll.

You'd want to edit the bits after 350km to get it down to distance, because its just a rough layout going from the map. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/36426786

Yeah I moved and happy gravel tons can start after a walk around the block (from where I usually unleash the dog and start the ride to the butchers) :-)

I did these as DIY 300 and 400 last year. They both start in London (Ealing) but one has lots of sea in it and the other satisfied my curiosity about brown signs in the chilterns.

Was going to do this as my flat, easy 600 with a premier inn sleep stop, but CBA so DNS'd it:

Nice one @frank9755 I've added these to my collection. If I start nagging her now I think I will have almost convinced her to ride them before the season ends. ;)

Never got round to riding this one but looked good and probably not too much of a pain to get to from West https://ridewithgps.com/routes/31215183

Ah, I remember that. I think I had it in my list as a late season backup if I missed one of the earlier 600s when doing my Hyper SR.
Was a mostly great time! I think I was enjoying it more than the captain... then again a lot less to do.
