I've been wondering, if wax is good for reducing friction in chains, would it also work in bearings? Could someone advise on why this might not be a good idea, before I try it and trash a perfectly good hub bearing please

So in "explain it like I'm 5" terms, it's about keeping dirt out? Doesn't the bearing shield do most of that work?
