  • What's a good all round 27.5 XC tyre for UK conditions?

  • Could do worse than these, or Barzos for a bit more of an all-rounder.

  • Saw those and for that price wanted them to be right! But from what i've read they're summer race tyre?

  • I don't know the Ramparts but the fact that GK SKs are a bit of a pain
to setup, to me, implies quite a supple tyre which "normally" equates
to faster. But then you obviously have tread impact and stuff so this
is a bit of a fluffy opinion.

There is also a chance I'm now better at fitting TL and using better tape. Any perception I have on ride quality/speed is all fluff when not trying them out on the same day.

  • Anyone tried Teravail Rutlands in 27.5 x 2.1? Optimistically trying to decide on an all round tyre that will cope with tarmac, 'gravel' and mud. I realise no such tyre actually exists, but would like one that is a reasonable compromise for all 3.

  • a reasonable compromise for all 3

    Rocket ron?

  • Schwalbe's unbelievably complicated tyre line up gives me a headache so am discounting them for the moment.
(also can get Teravail more easily).

  • Schwalbe's unbelievably complicated tyre line up gives me a headache

    Extremely relatable

  • I think even their sales reps struggle

  • Though in their defence, their tyres have generally been really good for me, 'G One bites' (I think) are the closest I've come to the kind of tyre I'm looking for and I could just get another set of those. But I like variety.

  • Have Rutlands in 650bx47c, TL setup was real easy, have only used on two weekends away, can't comment on longevity but they were fine on a gravel, tarmac & mud mix.

  • Thanks - I think I'm going to give them a go.
Arguably I should just have another set of wheels and put mtb tyres on one and keep the WTB Byways I'm using at the moment on the other.

  • Odd question but anyone had troubles with latex tubes and Co2? I just blew two, possibly because a chunk of car went through my sidewall and dinged the rim, or maybe because I put too much pressure (but it should take up to 140 psi).
Anyways, if anyone got some side of the road drama with this combination of like to hear it.

  • Yeah this is generally when you blast all the CO2 into the tube in one blast (at least in my experience). I've exploded a few lightweight butyl tubes doing this as the cold air from the canister either freezes the tube in one section or restricts its ability to expand. Easy fix is to just inflate with multiple short blasts rather than dumping it all in at once.

  • TBF I did 2-3 shoots but I'll space them a bit more next time just in case. Patched the bloody things at the workshop, put a new tire and fixed the dinged wheel and it went up like a champ.

  • I've never had any issues inflating tubes (latex or butyl) with one of these...

    or these...

    Just sayin'. 8-)

  • GKs are more supple than ramparts. Tubeless Ive struggled to move on from the GKs. Easily get 6/7 k Kms out of a set.
I've some wonky 38mm ramparts you can have for nothing if you like?

  • Where can one find a pair of GK 38 slicks these days? Tubeless that is. And black ofc.

  • Any pump I can carry on my pocket it's just too much effort and time wasted. Anything bigger defeats the point of stupidly light carbon race bikes.

  • Explain 'wonky' . I ask as i think i have a set of 'wonky' terravails too

  • Mounted on perfectly straight rims, and seated correctly. Rotate the wheels and one will notice a wonk in the tyre.

  • As much as I love to test every tyre under the sun, I think I'm good for a while, thanks! :)

  • too much effort and time wasted

Except for the fact CO2 didn't work so was actually slower than the result from a pump, it produced a little more CO2 for the atmosphere to suck up and another single use piece of CO2 cylinder that'll go in the bin. #usethepumpluke
