It would be a very British gravel thing if that rather nice gravel road ended in that muddy rut going up. With a cattle gate for maximum effect.

It start and end on road, which was handy.
The 44mm WTB Byway was impressive on the loose and damp Causeway from Redmires Reservoir to Hasterage.

Due to leaving the wrong bike at work I had to take the Wangster Anti-gravel (with added mug for extra piss ribbing) on our Friday night hit the dirt ride. It coped just fine.

I 100% stand by using skateboard tape on levers to provide easy grip off road.

Probably needed because your hands are slipping about on that cotton tape.

I quite like cotton tape, it's not any worse than cork. I'm tempted to try hockey cloth tape, it looks good value and must be fit for purpose?

It’s much easier to relax my grip on cotton tape as I don’t have to grip a little more on soft cork tape when it get quite bumpy.

I’m actually in the process of taking a rack and hacking it down as much i can that it can only carry a dry bag, no panniers, which would be the cheapest solution for a sturdy dry bag carriers.

Too sticky! It breaks down into glue very quickly, but is my go to for securing the cloth tape (on top of cork tape).

Sounds like a good plan and way cheaper than the alternatives like the tailfinn.
I'll be interested to see what you end up with. -

EVA tape makes sense on gravel. It’s comfy and cheap.
Cotton tape is for onion-seller market bikes and museum pieces.

Thanks for the feedback, glad I asked first.
Facing an urgent gravel emergency I decided to try cross tyres on my synapse.
