  • Is there any way to delete duplicate double-posted threads on here, or do we have to ask the boss to do it?

  • I tried some carbon assembly paste on my seatpost clamp in an attempt to stop the saddle tilting backwards. No dice. Anything else I should try before I just fucking punt it into a canal in frustration? It was absolutely fine for months and months and then all of a sudden started playing up for no obvious reason.

  • What do we do with out Garmin 500 that never worked from day 1 but which is now over two years old because we couldn't find out how to get it fixed and then we put it in a cupboard?

  • I'd also like to know. Got a sort of functional 520 with software issues.

  • I'd also like to know. Got a sort of functional 520 with software issues.

if you have not tried a reset that would be my first stop, followed by using garmin connect on a laptop with the device plugged in to do a software update.

Hold Power symbol for 10 seconds.

The device resets and turns on.

  • Garmin have traditionally been quite accommodating with "repairs" (in practice, exchange units) outside the warranty period

  • Try a hard reset

Edge 500 has been able to be fixed via the two-finger button combination that hard reset the unit. With the Edge 500, that two button combination is the Power/Light (upper-lefthand corner) and the diagonally across and down Lap/Reset button. From the off state, hold those two together until it powers up and a prompt appears to reset user data.

  • Anything else I should try

Loctite bearing retaining compound worked on a slightly similar post I had with the same issue.

  • Thanks, I'll give that a go!

  • Is this the Sumo post? Check the end caps for cracks.

  • I have an older Bianchi with 1" steerer and quill stem which is my everyday ride. Current bars are old-design and impossible to get a flat transition from the hoods. I want a more modern compact shape, but ideally keep the quill. Any recommendations for 25.4 clamp-size bars that fit the bill, or I guess a 1" black quill stem with oversize clamp? Def looking towards the budget end of the market, or very interested in second hand if anyone has anything to shift...

    Cheers

  • Decathlon do some compacts in that clamp size, as unearthed by @Neddos

  • Absolutely perfect, thank you!

  • It won't locate satellites, Garmin express doesn't say there is a missing software update, it is just going round in circles updating software---locating satellites---fail---updating software

  • Does anyone know anything about jewellery repair, in particular titanium repairs?

I have had a titanium chain for years, not worth much beyond sentimental value. About 15 years ago the clasp broke on it, I sent it away to repair (no idea where, think through a high street jewellers) and it came back with a fairly horrible silver clasp on it, which didn't really match, but at the time I was pretty broke, so just put it back on and forgot about it.

Whilst swimming this weekend by 5 year old daughter decided to swing off it and has once again broken the clasp. I would like to have it repaired again, and ideally this time more sympathetically, I have done some googling for titanium jewellery repair, and coming up blank, any one got any ideas who would take this on or if it is even possible?

  • I have a saddle like the one below on my bike, alas it's a bit fucked now, I want to get a new one.

Don't know much about saddles but liked that "Rolls" one; could be a tad more narrow maybe, and ideally the new one would not chuff my clothes as much (I looked at the modern vegan Brooks ones but those apparently eat pants).
Would prefer second hand for budget and enviromental reasons.
Style wise something dark brown would be good, black might work as well; rather "classic" than modern spaceship style (it's an eighties steel bike)..

    Any recommendations welcome!

  • It is the Sumo yeah. Is that a common issue? I had it apart yesterday and didn't notice any cracks but I wasn't really looking for them. I'll give it a proper inspection!

  • Dunno if it’s common but it happened to mine (a good few years ago now). USE sent me replacements for free when I spoke to them about it.

  • Good to know, I'll keep an eye on it either way. Cheers!

  • nothing is working and i'm still going round in circles, any offers for a new, albeit completely dysfunctional, garmin edge 500 to have a fiddle with?

  • Any good coffee places in walking distance of Barbican tube/Aldersgate.
    THAT TAKE CASH‽

    Ffs.

  • Cash? Why are you using cash, you filthy tax dodger?

  • filthy tax dodger?

    Good guess.
