• Hi wheelbuilders. I haven't read this thread much so this may have been asked before...

    Spocalc is telling me to use 258 and 260mm spokes on a wheel build I'm doing. I've found some cheap 261s online and am thinking it won't be a big issue to use 261s on both sides and just dish the wheel at the end in the frame (no truing stand) ... some other online folk suggest elsewhere that spoke length doesn't have to be suuuuuuper accurate. Any thoughts?

    It's true, you can nearly always get away with ±1mm 🙂

  • Maybe you can get away with it, but if for whatever reason the calculator is 1-2mm off you may find yourself with spokes 5mm bigger in one side.
