  • What about the join where he cuts the membrane in half on the other side of the upstand?

I’m using tilting velux in my roof (yeah I know they’re only meant to be used on >15deg pitch, but what the heck, I like living on the edge). I think what I’ll do is unroll the membrane across the roof without the windows fitted and mark the openings. Then roll back the membrane, fit the windows, glue, unroll, swear a lot and hope for the best.

  • I'll be honest - I hadn't quite got tonthat bit when I posted, as i had a few windows open with youtube on.

It feels like a questionable choice! Yours seems sensible though.

    Do you have any upstand?

  • No, no upstand as such. The ‘flaps’ from the cut out slip under the flashing of the window, then there’s a while flashing kit to stick on top.

If you haven’t seen it, the restoration couple on yt has a pretty good video on how to flash an upstand. You glue down the triangular flaps to the vertical face then use flexible self amalgamating tape over the corners. Looks pretty straightforward, if a little fiddly.
