Phils for the bling then, or some NOS Shimanos…

RS4 hub is not so loud (compared to my previous mavic), they’re ‘road’ hubs but I can’t think it’d be an issue given what you’ve said about your usage. Onyx are apparently silent
Hunt are likely rebranded novatec hubs on kinlin rims I think?
-
• #10732
Hmm, yeah I read the RS4 are quieter because they only have two pawls instead of four. Less clickety. I am thinking about it but they only come as centre lock hubs. I'd like to use my 6 bolt disks for now and at some point buy some hope floating ones.
Bitex MTF10/MTF12 seem to be what I am looking for but they only come in black? Don't they usually offer silver too?

I thnk @thecycleclinic mentioned a new line of silver disc hubs in the works a few pages back?
Newer XTR are silver and pretty nice but can be a pain to get in your preferred axle standard / drilling as the axles aren't interchangeable, not the cheapest either unless you get a deal on them.

While i'm here does anyone have a pair of qr converters for HED Ardennes+ gp disc wheels lying around gathering dust? My mate has offered me his old wheels since buying some Zipps but they're currently thru axle & I need qr, spending £70 on converters is a bit of a stinger

These are novatec spares
-
• #10736
Do you know, I thought that when I seen them - had a few pairs of novatec hubs & the end caps look strangely familiar, the HED hubs are a matt finish too & the adaptors aren't - any ideas on the model?

771/772 or 791/792 CL hubs. They are essentially the same model.
I have the rear axle assembly and one side front cap you can have for free

That would be amazing, cheers - will pm!

Anyone have a SRAM Automatix hub they don't want? Ideally coaster version.

Trying to build a disc 20” wheel for a cargo bike. Does anyone have recommendations on where to buy spokes that short?
Ideally I’d need 18x186mm and 18x188mm
I’ve found 40pcs packs but that’s twice as many as I need of either length -
• #10741
I'll check the lengths I need and then we could possibly split?
-
• #10742
Have used Spokes from Ryan. They sell spokes individually.
Sure you could also buy them from local wheel builders?
I’ve also bought packs of 16 or 36 spokes via eBay

Are they expensive?
Where are you based, I might take the spares if it's easy enough. -

Couldn't see a hub thread... any experts on free hub noise here?
Trying to find out what Novatech D412SB are like. Youtube videos are not much use, 1 wheel in isolation spun indoors is not the same as on the road. How would they compare with, e.g.
DT350 - make a noise on the bike when spun, can barely notice on the road when riding.
Hope RS4 - a little louder then the DT350 but won't get in the way of a conversation.
DT180 EXP- WHAT DID YOU SAY, STOP FREEWHEELING AND TRY AGAINTrying to recommend something quiet for a friend that LB might stock and can be configured TA front, QR rear without being mega spendy. https://www.lightbicycle.com/newsletter/Light-Bicycle-Bike-Hub-List-of-2020.html

They’re £14 for 40 spokes, but I’m in Denmark so that probably makes it less attractive :)
-

I feel the noise freehubs make is wack (except old Shimano MTB ones which are almost silent). I have definitely scared off wildlife I want get closer to with a Horp. Onyx are pretty quiet I gather. £££. Good luck finding out what the Novatech is like.

Aha, bmx sized CX Rays 🤗

I don't find novatec particularly noisy, definitely less than hope or DT, but could be me so used to have them in a few of my wheels.

Hi wheelbuilders. I haven't read this thread much so this may have been asked before...
Spocalc is telling me to use 258 and 260mm spokes on a wheel build I'm doing. I've found some cheap 261s online and am thinking it won't be a big issue to use 261s on both sides and just dish the wheel at the end in the frame (no truing stand) ... some other online folk suggest elsewhere that spoke length doesn't have to be suuuuuuper accurate. Any thoughts?
I am currently sitting at home all day with a broken wrist so I have way too much time to stare at bike parts.
I am scouting for parts for a 29er wheel set. I am no mtb pro so this is more for some fun bits in epping or bikepacking trips on the South Downs Way etc. If I can I’d like to keep them reasonably lightweight. 1700-1800gr would be great. Visually silver hubs and black rims would be what I am after.
I am thinking 28h WTB KOM i25 Light with some Hope Pro4 hubs. The only thing that keeps me from pulling the trigger is the apparently super loud free hub noise.
I can’t think of any other nice mtb hubs that come in silver and aren’t even beyond the hope price tag like Chris Kings.
Any other ideas or inputs? Should I just buy a set of Hunt XC Wide wheels?
