• Yes, material costs are a bit bonkers at present. Timber, ply, cement, steels are all well up. My builder re-quoted back in Feb. I ended up doing some value engineering to get it back down , but it was still above the original 2020 quote. Is the 3.5k for timber alone? Seems very steep if so. If that's the full build, steels, other materials, labour increases etc. then that could be right

  • Yeah that's the total additional cost on top of the original quote.
    I was reading an article on this the other week and thought it might effect our build and so no real surprise just annoying as it eating into our contingency. Looks like I'll be doing more of the decorating than I had originally planned!

  • Unfortunately that's within the bounds of current reality then. Are they quoting a fixed cost? Having it fixed has somewhat protected me from further rises , e.g. a 6% increase in window supply costs recently
