I've gone bourbon blind! You probably just have cooler Sainos than me.

Aren't Hudson the ones who play music to their whiskey to "sonically age" it?
-
• #3804
It said something about subwoofers and sonic agitation in the blurb somewhere, so yeah, probs.

I’ve been to a vineyard where they play Gregorian chanting to the casks

I wonder what particular flavours such mystical staves might impart.

Did he row a boat with enough oak in it to build 10 casks for 3000 miles?

I was reading about bourbon that is bottled with wooden sticks in the bottle.
Seems gimmickyOak&Eden but I can't seem to find it in the UK

A lot of "oak aged" stuff isn't aged in barrels, it just has bags of oak chips dunked into a massive vat.
Definitely for wine, probably some whisky too. -

Compass box got in trouble for this a while back- addition of internal staves into a cask no longer renders it a cask and so cannot be called Scotch.

I didn't know that but it doesn't surprise me. I come from wine area so I've seen a lot of their tricks and you just know they're doing it with other drinks.

This years Ardbeg committee release is on sale today at 10am for anyone interested. I won't be getting this years one myself sadly.

Getting stuck into a bottle of Woodford Rye, and it is good.
Happy Friday folks, cheers!

The new Aberlour 14 double cask matured is on offer in Waitrose for £45. Mine is batch number 0002.
Only 40% but really peppery and rich with some oak. Lovely.

Guinness cask Lagavulin. Will it be better than the Gelnfiddich IPA cask nonsense.

can't be much worse...

Dipping into the Laphroaig Quarter Cask, surprising on a few levels; first the sweetness which was unexpected from this producer (despite the description and reviews) and how mature it tastes.
I like it but the next one will be from my preferred smoker family. -

I tried to buy it and the price changed in my basket to £47. Did you manage to get one for 25?
Edit: I think it went out of stock before I checked out so that's why

Was in Scotland for a bit this past week. Visited Glengoyne, wouldn't normally be on my radar but tasty stuff. Also, this:

I got one at 27.24 (before the 10%) - price now says 47.24 so most likely a pricing error in the tens digit? Intrigued to see if they honour the order now.

Fingers crossed!
This, like all of the flora and fauna range, is excellent. If you're a sherry cask fan you can't go wrong, extremely well balanced, touch of spice and very subtle smoke on the finish. Also a cracking example of an alternative for Japanese whisky fans as you can pick up a bottle for under £60.
