  • I might hit the goyt climb early doors Saturday then... if anyone else is headed out there and spots a ginger bean pole in a lfgss jersey crawling up say hi

  • Do you mean Taxal Moor Road? That’s not closing. If you mean the logging roads above Fernilee reservoir, they’re officially out of bounds but they get ridden loads without anybody getting any hassle.

  • Good route that, practicing for our Pym Chair event this summer?

  • From facebook, not sure if helpful.

  • Nah, not that one. There's a classic MTB loop where you ride out of Whaley Bridge on Buxton Road, turn off at the laybye with the food truck and the big pig, drop down over the river and up to the church in Taxal, wiggle around a bit until you're at the northwest corner of fernilee then follow a bridleway out onto The Street. I'm pretty sure it's all bridleways but could be wrong. Then you just ride up the road to the carpark/toilets and hang a left over another bridleway to Buxton, then back over to Whaley on Route 68.

  • You mean the road with the broken surface down the steep hill and a couple of gates? I’m pretty certain that won’t be closing.

  • Thanks. The bit I'm thinking of is a little further north. Will have to make an effort to get out that way in the next few weeks.

  • Just checked and it's been 7 years since I last rode it. I found an unhelpful photo of the trail and one of the pig for good measure though. I'll just get out and have a look.

Edit: how long do pigs live? :|

  • Erm nope, no way, no thank you, I'll make sure I'm working late that evening!

  • Not sure if you’ll be able to see this map but if not look up Cllr Ruth George on Facebook and she has lots of info about it. There’s a road closure as well as trails closed

  • I’ve not seen that pig. I’ll have to try and track him down.

  • Anyone know what happened to Tom Whalley's Shedcast?

  • Goyt done, so glad I went out early had the whole climb to myself.

Going to miss all the trees, and wonder how it'll impact the other wildlife. Fungus gonna fung though so I guess it needs doing & hopefully they can replant some resistant & native species.

Dropped off the Cat descent to follow a new route to me past Kerridge and Bollington which was ace bonus climbing, and confirms there's better direct route from Adlington to Blaze Hill in future too skipping the Pott Shrigley/Nab climb.

I took lots of pictures of the 3 main climbs most a bit like these 5 I share here.

  • Lovely. Should've been out myself this morning, but a late rise and high temperatures made me give it a miss.

  • Excellent classic route, up Goyt and down the Cat is some of my favourites. Is the other way up Kerridge still closed?

  • Go later as it cools off again? I'm tempted to double-day it but more sensibly will try & hit the Dunham/Tatton lanes in the morning instead.

  • Is the other way up Kerridge still closed?

Yes, but not clearly signposted at the junction, much clearer after the little hairpin though.

  • Yeah, gonna nip out for a couple of hours this evening, just stay local. Hopefully my riding partner is back tomorrow from holiday, so next weekend I won't have the luxury of crying off, I do lack self motivation sometimes.

  • I'd be up for tagging along on rides like this if you fancy company in the future. Looks a lovely morning out!

  • Same here. I live in the peaks but happy to ride out for a meetup.

  • Ooh, me too, quite happy to meet somewhere round Macc/Bollington.

  • Same same. I need to start putting a few more hours in. Have 250km out into the Berwyns coming up in a few weeks and just hoping stubbornness will get me round that.

  • Next Saturday - 8.30am at Poynton roundabout?

  • I can't next weekend and after that will depend what post-covid fitness looks like. I am keen though so will keep an eye on the thread
