  • New bird table

That's a nice table yo, but to be frank I think it would be a lot cooler if it was a pool.

    Think about it.

  • Does anyone know what this is?
I'm guessing its a type of ivy but with large leaves and red soft stems so easy to trim and train on my rockery. Quite new to all this and was wondering if its considered invasive.

  • Native English ivy - it’s quite an invasive spreader as far as I know

  • Have two large fatsia japonica’s which have an abundance of berries. I think these can be used to get seeds. If anyone wants some in the post then lemme know - I’m not of a mind to plant more as they’re already taking up 6-8m

  • Ooh, they like shade yes? Wouldn't mind some please. Will PM.

  • My bargain ferns, from last year have mostly come up pretty well. No idea on the species but they seem to be fairly happy in partial sun at the moment. Unfortunately my garden in still a muddy hole and I that probably won't change until next spring at the earliest so hopefully they survive in pots for another year.

Also got some tiny maidenhair spleenwort ferns growing out of the wall (not my photo below but about as small), has anyone tried propagating these. I need a LOT more of them as want to make a green wall down my shady side return.

  • New lawnmower day. Little Flymo was just not cutting it (literally and figuratively). It rained after I tried to cut it btw.

  • Yeah partial shade and moist soil (I think it’s south East Asian so that kinda climate I suppose). Send me your address and I’ll stick them some in the post

  • Cordless mowers FTW!

  • The 4th Fern along looks like Athyrium Silver Falls.

I'm a bit sad as the two funkiest of my Fern collection don't seem to have survived my planting before the late frost. Hoping the root balls are still salvageable/survivable and they'll recover.

  • First rose. Tonnes on it ready to pop.

Also these things I think are a type of hosta that my MIL gave me a few years ago are about 6" taller than most years. If anyone can ID them they're a great North facing / shade tolerant plant than will grow in clay and tolerate total saturation and waterlogging in the winter.

  • persicaria bistorta

  • Amazing! Thanks.

Only thing worth adding is that it spreads fairly freely. Due to the size of the leaves and density it will dominate other plants, so at some point you'll probably want to reign it in. But it's more of a gradual and continuous encroachment so not hard to do.

Also the RHS' description of semi-evergreen is a bit odd. Unless that means that it dies back to a brown patch with a load of root coloured tuber things under decaying leaves.

  • My roses have started flowering too. For some reason all the pink ones seem ahead of the curve.

  • Ah, that looks great! Love the alium / clematis combo.

  • What's the pink flowers behind the rosemary?

  • Just more alliums, slightly different colours and one in front of the other

  • Little Flymo was just not cutting it

I don't think it's really a Flymo, though, I can see shoes under the hover cushion.

  • Ah, nice. Might have to see if I can find a space for some allium here.
