  • Sorry, had to unbox in the kitchen surrounded by kids and the in-laws. Itā€™s fricken beautiful. Always though of SGā€™s as somehow being a bit delicate but itā€™s beast of a thing. Chunky neck, wide fretboard, big frets... it feels proper manly.

  • It smells amazing too.

  • first song?

    it's gotta be acka.

  • Of course!

  • Such a classic. Looks so good.

  • Finally finished building this beast tonight. So happy to get it over the line, itā€™s been fighting me for the last few weeks.

  • Oof - that is super handsome! Love it.

  • Amongst all the other cool details, I love that headstock šŸ˜

  • Likewise - just the right kind of size

  • Very nice, wide range? Talk us through it, what does the switch above the lead socket do?

  • Mate, thatā€™s a seriously cool thing. Show us some in progress pics?

  • Cheers folks!

Itā€™s made of swamp ash, hollow body, with a set rosewood neck (24.75ā€ scale). The pickups are Creamery PAF-sized WRHBs, and itā€™s got a Tele-style half bridge. Itā€™s essentially a (slightly odd) mash-up of a Thinline Tele with a Les Paul DC Special.

what does the switch above the lead socket do?

Thatā€™s a phase switch. You canā€™t really see it in the photos, but the pickguard is transparent, so you can see the wiring behind it.

  • I donā€™t want to flood the place with photos, but you can see a lot of in-progress stuff on my Instagram.

Also, there are videos of the build on my YouTube channel - Iā€™ve been making it for the 2021 Great Guitar Build Off, part of which is videoing the build.

Iā€™m no Youtube personality, so this part was a challenge for me. I eventually opted for music and subtitles, rather than subject everyone to my monotonous droning.

  • This looks fantastic mate, very well done!

  • Woah. Cool!

  • That looks great. How does it play?

  • Really well - itā€™s very light, but resonant and gritty. I originally had the strings top-loaded through the bridge, but Iā€™ve changed them to proper Tele style through-body with ferrules on the back. Made a huge difference to the sustain.

  • That looks great! The LP/thinline combo really appeals too.

  • Just watched all your vids. Fantastic stuff dude! Are all of tools and the workshop yours?

  • Loved watching that, subscribed... And yeah, great skills and workshop! Cute kid too... šŸ™ƒ

  • Luthier's pic (before final touches) of my Aria P-bass, will pick it up today. Set up to C standard, 120-100-80-60 strings, custom matte black pickguard. Never tried a bass that was properly tuned down before, much excite. Can't wait to get my hands on it!
