• Signed up to lfgss to thank letog for his inspiring post on da Pacer. Hello.
Bike looks great after all your hard work. Particularly interested in how you handled the brake upgrade with the XT V-types.
I have a 1989 version of same, pre (nicer) splatter paint but with the pink stem. I believe, subject to a new chain, it's in original condition, on its first IRC "cross country" 35c tyres on black anodised UKAI rims, and seemingly pre lx/dx branding deore drive drain. I'll get some photos up if anyone's interested. I acquired bike from my brother (too big a frame for him at 22") after he'd bought on auction site for c. £80 a couple of years back, to replace same model he'd bought new in 1989 for c. £400 which got pinched.

Why aren't there more of these things about...or the more MTB Sierras and so on , in UK? It's certainly the most comfortable bike i've ever owned, the frame flex and riding position on the original bar width just right for me. I don't mind the Biopace rings either but likely not fit enough to really notice. The only bit i haven't tried to move yet is the quill stem just hoping it hasn't seized up. Cheers, John

  • Thanks for your kind words.

The V's were just a practical thing for me, to be honest. I think a nice set of cantis would suit the bike better visually, but it stops really well this way and was quick and simple to dial in.

Would definitely be keen to see some pics!
