I have 3 different 46T chainrings on 3 different bikes I'll have you know!
-
• #353
I can’t see it running.
I remember you called it right early on last year.
-

The chances would have been better if it finished in italy, which it might do anyway.
-
• #355
Yes, I thought it would have been a much better route if they had gone down Italy and finished in Calabria or Sicily rather than the long ferry to Greece. If they had kept it a bit further East it needn't have looked too like the 2VS.

Riding through France and Italy wouldn't really feel like riding across the whole Europe though, even though it's not far off.
The cps are interesting again. CP3 parcours goes here https://maps.app.goo.gl/4h91enSJtVZ5xerL7

Sure - that was why I pulled out. I did a little bit of route-planning. France section would be good but most of the Italy section would be Po valley then the road down the coast from Rimini which, in August, would be busy as.
Highlight for me was CP4 - the Appenines bit. CP3 would be wonderful on a nice day but I wouldn't want to get caught up there on the wrong bike with the wrong kit in the middle of the night in a storm. And I wasn't ecstatic about riding Roubaix cobbles with a fully loaded bike!

I don't think getting a ferry across the adriatic is much more of a rich experiance?
-
• #359
Much walking, much swearing
-
• #360
Yeah not much, but there would be a few hundred kms to ride in Greece after that, which would kind of make the finish, I think.
-
• #361
Only 400km so get off the ferry and ride in with no sleep!
-
• #362
That does sound simple. If it was a bit more than one could expect to be able to ride with no sleep, would've made it more exiting, given more opportunity for things to change after the ferry.

Talk of Greece wanting to make summer holiday access dependent on having had a vaccine.
Might give older riders a big advantage! -
• #364
Or those from Sweeden, given they seem about the only ones planning to certify.
-
• #365
Ha!
That could be brilliant; first time ever the winner also misses the finisher party time cut ! -
• #366
Surely everyone knew vaccine passports would be the situation coming
-
• #367
Not a done deal. French against it, apparently. And even Greeks don't want to limit travel to the vaccinated. But it wouldn't be a big surprise if things do go that way.
-
• #368
How are things looking for the tcr?
Are they going to be able to run it? -
• #369
Didn't someone post about border concerns and green cards in the Ultra thread?
It won't be a fair race unless perhaps they nullify any border crossing times at the end.
-
• #370
Unlikely I’d say. Had to complete a questionnaire to give an indication if likely to be fully vaccinated by the start etc. Issue seems to be border crossings having quite an impact.
-
• #371
What about their Transpyrenees event?
-
• #372
As far as I'm aware that is still due to go ahead. Part of the questionnaire also suggests TCR entrants would be able to ride TPR if they want to.
-
• #373
OK, interesting. Shame, but maybe unavoidable.
I'm helping on TPR and there's been no wordof it being affected. Early days for that, I guess. A lot could change. I expect 100% of Anna's focus is on TCR now.
-
• #374
TPR has benefit of being single country (I think). Thats so much easier; once you are in country, you are in country
-
• #375
France, Spain and Andorra, no?
Add a slightly less tempting route to that too, at least for some.
