That by seatown?

Struggling to find any wheels for my new build. Sub 500 quid. Any recommendations? Keep getting told to avoid Hunt, plus their wider offerings are out of stock until Aug.
-
• #19354
Not sure what your requirements are but these are wide, bombproof, decent hubs and get universally good reviews https://off.road.cc/content/review/wheels/dt-swiss-g-1800-spline-25-700c-wheelset-review-5593
They're not bling though...

Cheers buddy, bit too deep and heavy I think... I'm bloody useless at this though.

could get a local shop to "build you some hunts", regardless of what people think of hunt the parts (novatech/kinlin) are fine, i know @snottyotter is a big proponent of this method

What's the reason to avoid Hunt? I can remember when everybody praised them for their great price/value ratio. In fact, I own two of their wheelsets and have been very happy with them. Just wondering what this change of mind is based on?

Realised I'd linked to the wrong DT Swiss wheels, was meant to link to the ones I've updated the link with. Which having looked are out of stock everywhere.
-
• #19359
I've been looking into that, quite fancied Hope hubs and Hplus Hydras, but they are not really any wider...
-
• #19360
Unfashionable now, cyclists are so fickle. TBH they could be built a bit better but they're not really built any worse than a lot of wheels, getting someone reputable to build similar locally would mean they'd get a bit more time spent finishing them to a slightly better standard.

Could go Bitex / Novatec / Hope hubs and DT Swiss X432 rims

Good spot fella 👍 I clocked 50+ mph fully loaded coming down the hill on the main road by the cross roads, thank the little donkey for hydro discs 😂😂

Hope to kinlin is always nice, bit heavier than bitex but more bling, noisier and hope will tell you their tolerances are tighter so bearings will last longer which may well be true.
-
• #19364
Wow to me that sounds like very wanky reasons to tell somebody to avoid them. Of course, you get nicer wheels from somebody local you pay properly for their services instead of buying off the shelf.
-
• #19365
I'm not saying to avoid them and was being a little tongue in cheek.
-
• #19366
More just what I have been hearing from others. I may just end up buying a pair. What size tyres are you running on yours?
-
• #19367
There's nothing wrong with Hunt at all. People just need to be aware that they have rebranded generic stuff, so shouldn't be paying exotic brand prices for it.
-
• #19368
I run 40mm on a set of 4 seasons disc. As I said I am happy with them. My next wheelset will be something different like hopes laced to some wtb rims or similar but that's only because I want something more bling.
-
• #19369
TBF, there are about 2 factories that make EVERYTHING bike wise as far as I know, or at least in the BMX world.
-
• #19370
Oh nice, any pics? I'm not 100% sure what size tyre I even need but don't want to limit myself to narrow ones.
-
• #19371
Hunt is barely exotic pricing, LB wheelset costs more than Hunt carbon these days.
And Hunt now has 3 grand tour stage wins too.
-
• #19372
Fair enough. I assumed that they are Kinlin rims. Don't know about the hubs but I also don't think Hunt Wheels are that expensive for what they offer. At least for their base wheels. Don't know about the more fancy carbon ones.

*stage wins
