Mechanical Disc Callipers - BB7 Road ideally. Flat mount.

As per title folks, trying to get my new project finished off so I can never ride it.

BB7 .. you must really hate yourself

Its to punish myself for not getting a new job.
What would you recommend instead?

anything hydraulic, Hope RX4 since you are a snob?

I'm also poor now, so sticking with cable for a year or so (already have the groupset from my Victorie), but yeah, will be Hope RX4.

If you take one of the post mount calipers above, I have the adapters to fit flat mount frames.

I have some flat mount silver Bb7 road callipers . Currently on my bike being driven by mtb levers . J also have some mtb ones spares. Have been meaning to swap .

I bought some cheap bb7 from aliexpress for my mtb and was underwhelmed (I have bb7 on a couple other bikes and really like them). Swapped to some old beat up bb5 from ebay and braking is so much better.

Suspect the bb7 were seconds (I stripped them down and found 2 washers where there should be one in one of them but even after rebuild they weren't great) or just downright fakes.

Did you buy road or mtb because I think the cable pull is different which may be the cause.

I’ve said it before but I suspect that there are a lot of these hooky/grey market BB7s kicking about and I think they are what ruins peoples’ opinions of them.

Over the years I’ve had a lot of them through my hands and some (like the ones I got from aliexpress) just cannot be made to work nicely whereas others will set up really nice and work hassle free.

I have noticed some dodgy looking BB5s on the likes of Aliexpress too but not in the same volumes as 7s and you don’t usually have to look too hard to find some used ones on eBay getting sold for absolute pennies so more worth the gamble.

If they were both good quality and well setup I don’t know whether I’d take a 5 over a 7 but I know Ed reckon the 5s are a bit stiffer due to their one piece construction.
