  • And it still had its wheels when you got back?

Not only all four wheels but a spare litre of oil (required) and 5 litres of coolant (not yet required) for when the car's bazillion thermostats finally crack open.

  • I don't know if it's a faux-pas to post here, but I would be really excited to find our car a new home with an obsessive cycling mad-person who would continue to look after it in the obsessive cycling mad-person way it has been looked after all it's life.

It's a 2010 BMW 320d Touring, only for sale because of ULEZ. It's high-spec, with all the history, and all the buttons and lights and walnut and that. I'm super sad to see it go, we were going to use it as a flight-killing-drive-across-Europe-mobile to visit family, but that hasn't happened. If anyone wants an early-bird glance at it while I'm procrastinating, do drop me a line and I will PM my classified draft, some pictures and a special forum price for mad obsessive people.

  • How would I go about getting this valued?

  • You should put one of your engines in that! Id love to have it, just dont want to pay the costs involved..

  • You have to factor in the cats.
Two Auris, one Prius and a brace of Jazz in the workshop since Monday last week to today for replacement catalysts. The Aurises' cats were stolen at different houses 5o metres apart on the same road within minutes of each other. They really are getting hammered everywhere.
I drove a Yeti Monte Carlo for about 10 miles the other day, 170bhp and an absolute hoot but I think they might eat tyres.

  • Picked up this wee beauty today. Coming from a 1st Gen XC90 it is an absolute revelation.
Insurance dropped £15 to less than £30 too owing to all the driver assist features.
Also dropped a cylinder for economic reasons and gained moar powerz. Winning.

  • I've no idea how much these are worth but is there enough of that one left to be a good base for a resto?

  • Yeah, more than enough- plus you have the numbers matching engine and transmission (well, “correct range to be fitted at the factory”). £25,000 would turn that into a factory fresh shell- that’s at the maximum end of things.

  • Surely as it's an auction, you just have to wait until the end to find out what its market value is.

  • Is it time to stop pretending the Honda Jazz is the default forum vehicle?

  • When an offer of 12k would take it and that’s what the seller is expecting, but started the auction at 15 because you never know?

  • Make the offer and find out :)

Incredible new engine or not, this would trample all over the current one.

  • So what was the difference between the 912 and the 911s of this era, engine?

What is the market value for a good condition 912 these days? I have no clue just know they were a lot cheaper than the 911s when i was looking some 15 years ago but suspect they too took of to ridiculous amounts?

  • Optimistically described as "80% finished", £35k

  • Electric conversion project?

  • If you're gonna nut-and-bolt an old Porshe shouldn't you be electrifying it rather than sticking a big fat polluter in it? At least then it has a useable future.

  • I always thought they were just smaller engined / cheaper versions of the 911.

  • So what was the difference between the 912 and the 911s of this era, engine?

It's a four cylinder engine instead of six isn't it? Like a budget version.

There's one around the corner from me in beautiful condition which looks spectacular. I've seen it drive fairly regularly, it does sound a little disappointing.

  • It would probably do under 2,000 miles a year- no way to justify the environmental costs of the battery pack.

  • Correct. Smaller four cylinder engine very heavily related to the familiar VW flat four, cheaper than the contemporary 911. The engine is lighter and closer to the centre of the car, being slightly shorter, not that I expect I’d be able to tell the difference.

  • So would the plan be to bin the 4 cylinder lump and put something else in, or to re-engineer the original engine?

  • Love a 912. I did not know they were worth £15k finished though. £25k is mad. It's just a beetle with a 911 body right? I guess a perfect beetle from a particularly desirable year is probably £25k now though too.

I believe @coppiThat might have had one in the past.

  • Don't change the engine! From memory, the beetle engine is the main thing that stops it being a 911. I think also the bumpers and exterior trim are less flashy, and subjectively nicer. But I think if you want to change the engine, you probably don't deserve a 912. Killin' puppies.

  • If do a full OEM restoration, with the original engine and transmission.

  • Apart from anything else you’d need to put turbo rear arches on in order to get enough tyre under the car to deal with 400 bhp, which (to me) ruins the look completely. Narrow body 4 life.
