  • Starting this thread in the vague hope it will encourage me to document this process and get some valuable help along the way as I am out of my depth a bit here.

Since seeing this bike on Stridsland (https://www.stridsland.com/id-rather-be-klunking/) I can't stop thinking about how cool it looks, so in a vague attempt at imitating it I have picked up a cheap old MTB frame from Retrobike.

It's apparently an '88 Specialized Hard Rock with 22" seat tube and 23" top tube. I'm 6'3" so hoping this is big enough for me before I spend any money on it. I have no idea how MTB sizing works though so I guess we'll find out.

Would like to get it stripped and resprayed but thinking I should probably build it up first and see how it fits/rides. Paintwork is in pretty good nick, considering its age.

Cranks seem slightly odd - they are square taper but instead of having a recess for a crank bolt to screw in they have the opposite? Haven't seen that before.

So the list of things I need is:

    26" coaster brake rear wheel
    26" dynamo front wheel
    a quill stem adapter
    a chode MTB stem
some BMX style bars + grips
    suitable crankset
    seatpost + saddle

Have found someone local selling a 26" rear wheel with velosteel hub, and matching 36h front rim. Annoyingly they are silver and have MSW and I'd much prefer some black disc rims as I'm going to be running this without front or rear rim brakes.
