• Clicking noise from my bike: took me absolutely ages to finally track down the source!

There’s a little rectangle of metal in the rim - it looks like it used to be where the join of the rim is but now is free to slide round. I know nothing about wheels so havnt a clue how vital this is to it’s integrity.

    Fiery death?

  • This happened in a HED Belgium Plus I have and wound me up no end. I think it’s essentially a piece of metal that’s used to hold everything in place when they’re joining the rim. You’ll find advice online that suggests you can secure it in place using a punch on the rim join but I had great success with a tiny bit of superglue (carefully) in the spoke hole to stick it in place out of the way of the nipple/hole

  • Ah, thanks! That’s good to know - I have the wheel and tyre off at the moment so I’ll just dab a bit of glue to hold it in place and have a worry-free ride tomorrow evening. The noise is annoying but my main concern was if the rim was about to suddenly unravel spectacularly on me, but it makes sense it’s something used in assembly.
