  • Yeah, it’s kind of specific to my situation though - if I could have a sub paired with small-ish nearfield monitors I probably would, but making music (often with an 808 kick 😂) at home in a flat isn’t really conducive to using a subwoofer.

    I use the HS7s happily while jamming, moving around the room a bit etc - for basic mixing they’re pretty good. But when getting into EQing stuff and the overall tonal balance of the mix, I go to a good pair of headphones - Audeze LCD-X - and do a lot of looking at EQ meters / spectrum analysers and what-have-you to figure out exactly what the low end is doing.

    The Audezes are the key. It was Fanu that turned me onto them, he does all his mastering work using them. But if you’re not working with sub frequencies all that much in your mixes then I feel 8020s ought to cover you.
