I wonder what this tells us about the efficiency of race radios. Did the team car deliberately withhold this info from him, did the radio stop working, did the team car not realise he was at the front of the race? Many questions.
I doubt he was able to hear much on the radio other than 'keep going' when he was smashing it up the last 600m.
He might have performed better thinking he was just trying to claw as much time against his rivals, rather than thinking he was going for the win.
