Finally run out of Ernie Ball strings, any recommendations on a nice set of light gauge acoustic strings? Fancy a bit of a change.

• #11384
hey man. I have an irrational love of these pricey bastards. https://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/strings-c1/string-sets-c865/acoustic-guitar-c33/thomastik-infeld-ac111-plectrum-bronze-11-50-acoustic-guitar-strings-p347
But most any of these will do you fine. https://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/strings-c1/string-sets-c865/acoustic-guitar-c33

I posted a tube amp today. I'm nervous.

As long as it arrives in one piece (and I can get the fucking Reverb website payout thing to work) i'll be up to £600 in the J50 kitty. Gonna sell some pedals and maybe stereo guff this week too. A long way off the £4k i probably need but hey, the chase is kinda fun.
-
• #11387
Ah cool will give them a try. Splash out for its first set of strings.

• #11388
Is that J50 as in? That's a hell of a guitar! Save harder! Buy sooner! Post pics!

Yeah I played a 50s one on some recordings a few years back and fell in love with it.

As trailed, here's my Vox VT20+ for sale. In good nick, with just a couple of marks and a small tear on a front corner. Really versatile amp with built in effects and multiple voices all driven by a real valve. Comes complete with Vox VFS5 footswitch for saving and selecting sounds £SOLD
Marshall Class 5 incoming but @BRM has first refusal.

Dibs the Vox please! It's new to me but reviews suggest it could be just what I'm after. OK if I confirm tomorrow after a bit more research?? I'm moving from a flat to a house any day now and will finally have an opportunity to plug in the (Epi) Les Paul. :-)
-
• #11392
Guitar forums (all other forums?) are full of contradictory opinions on stuff – my les paul's bridge tone pot has seemingly given up. Wiring looks happy, I removed and refitted anyway. Still no action.
New pot or new capacitor or both?
-
• #11393
Why not solder in a new capacitor and give it a try? That's a five-minute job, compared to replacing the pot, which would take quite a bit longer. Or you could test the pot with a multimeter.

Cool, I'm in! PM incoming.

Nice work on the Vox! Love a forum bargain.
I've just spent a happy hour setting up a 2016 Mex HSS Strat for a mate. Not my cuppa but a nice enough studio workhorse for yer jobbing muso (as he is). He's been offered it at £300 which is decent price.
I really enjoy turning what feels like a total dog into something that plays and feels great.

Oh man. My head has been turned. I accumulated about £1k of guitar fund and find myself lingering over ads for SGs.
I almost pulled the trigger (sorry, hate that phrase) on a 2020 SG Junior (single P90) but am now looking at s/h standards which seem to be available for under a grand. I think I do want a standard with the 2 pickups for George Harrison, Tony Iommi, Angus Young Reasons.
Also this!

Do it...

I'm still really into these oxblood-coloured "standards" with a '61 shaped tort guard and small block inlays…

Some digging at the weekend unearthed the Fender-branded Bigsby that had once been fitted to my Tele. Thought it was never to be seen again… unlikely to refit it but nice to have for completeness.
