  • A new passport?

  • Want a headache? Just imagine we withdraw from the UK somehow and are left to ourselves to govern. Imagine a shit storm with shit hail stones! 😁😁

  • Northern Ireland all by itself?

That would be tricky cos Norway this ain't.

But both DUP and SF would be unhappy at the same time, neither would get what they want 😁

  • If everyone’s unhappy - that’s fair! The funny bit is that everything would grind to a complete halt because no one would be able to make a decision albeit that is close to the norm at the moment 😁

320K backlog... 1 month 21 days to go.

The current Tory monitoring this is not a Brexiter, but didn't seem too worried either. Yep, born here of course so no idea about the hot mess that is the HO legislation.

Hopefully he gets guidance sorted... imagine going on holiday, then coming back saying you live/work here: "Sorry you are going in immigration detention". Em, I am waiting on a EUSS decision..
    Too bad! in you go...

Well it is going well /sarc

Now, 1/10 may not result in 1/10 actually leaving, and it is just one survey, but even if it is 1/100 that is a lot of people... note we would have left if it wasn't for my son (sorry TGR :P )

Note that people with higher incomes are more likely to leave, which is sorta duh, cos they can.
Younger lower income women are less likely to leave.

Rebuilding trust is going to be nearly impossible unless the HO gets an overhaul, but pigs can fly and all that.

  • In all honesty, I would have left this place years ago if it wasn’t for family ties. We have relations in Oz and that destination appealed but almost anywhere appeals!

  • I did leave. And I’m not even a forrin.
Well I am now of course!

  • My great-great-grandfather came down South from Aberdeen, I’m close to decided that I’m going to head back North if the Scots Indy looks like it’s a goer.

  • My great grandfather was Scottish.

Anyone know if that's likely enough for citizenship?

  • My great grandfather was Irish and I think that's one generation too removed but my dad has promised to fill out the paperwork to claim his Irish passport or whatever it is you can claim. And then potentially I could do so. I think his dad was maybe born in Ireland but I know very little about that side of my family sadly

  • Love all the brits complaining about Spanish residency situation. I've had mine accepted so they will clearly take anyone!

  • Sometimes eligibility can be quite tenuous!

I recently found out that I'm eligible for Austrian citizenship on the basis that my great grandfather and grandfather were forced to flee Austria when they refused to fight for the Nazis (they were both Austrian army officers). The argument is that if Austria hadn't collaborated, we'd still be Austrian.

Jana is eligible for a Polish passport because her great grandmother was a decorated war hero who smuggled Jews out of the Warsaw ghetto (and suffered the consequences).

Both Austria and Poland have citizenship programs for descendants of those who fought against the Nazis.

Feels like we are totally phoning it in.

  • I feel like there's a business opportunity here to trace EU citizenship for brits!

  • I think if your dad is claiming it from his grandparents then he needs to have done the application before you were born for it to then carry on to you. I had to request mine to be fast tracked so it was processed before my daughter was born.

  • I’m hoping to get it by being a taxpaying resident in Scotland when they rejoin.

  • And even if they don’t (or don’t for ages) my taxes won’t go straight into the pocket of a crooked Tory donor.

  • Or rent on a villa in Mustique etc

  • And you have to register the birth with the Irish government, if you’re weren’t born in Ireland.

  • Right yeah, that would make sense. I guess he can go live in the south of France then but I'm stuck here with this miserable lot

  • You can always do like Farage and marry a EU national?

  • I wouldn't want to upset my British girlfriend

  • Both Austria and Poland have citizenship programs for descendants of those who fought against the Nazis.

Do we (UK) have a citizenship program for descendants of those who fought against the Nazis? Or fought with/for the UK?

  • my great grandfather and grandfather were forced to flee Austria when they refused to fight for the Nazis (they were both Austrian army officers)

her great grandmother was a decorated war hero who smuggled Jews out of the Warsaw ghetto (and suffered the consequences).

    Well done them.

  • Very much so. I might be entitled to Czech and Hungarian citizenship. If I could pay a small fee for an educated opinion and then a larger fee for all the paperwork I'd do it.
