Good finish, fairly uneventful stage.
The highlight for me was having been to Notaresco & Abruzzo a few years ago. One of my good buddies was born there and I stayed on the coast with my wife in his apartment for a couple of weeks cycling holiday riding along the coast and up into the hills including Chieti where they visited today.
Can confirm it is as fun as it looks starting on the coast, riding an hour into 3,000 metre mountains and then finishing at sea level again dipping your toes into the Adriatic while having a late lunch on the beach.

Sprint like a real Lancastrian and you don’t need a saddle. PATHETIC.

If he was in any doubt about the rules then he should've been fucking nailing it to the finish.
The fact was he was still riding, so if they give his time back, some money has definitely changed hands.

What would be funny is if his seat fell off, he stopped to complain to the commis and then they weighed his bike after the finish and DQ'd him for being under 6.8kg :D

a non-exitant gap
Good typo.

True but also as a junior:
5 stage race wins, road and TT wins in Belgian Nationals, European Champs, world champs, and a couple of single day races.
In a year. -

Looks like the race commissaires accepted Carthy suffered from a mechanical, the results have been revised and he's been given the same time as the stage winner.

DQ'd him for being under 6.8kg
He's skinny but he's not that light

Valter's interview about the honour of riding in the pink jersey today was great, he seems really likeable. I'd never really got the fuss about riding in the leaders jersey on any day but the last.

Ewan abandon!

He was leaving early anyway so maybe a small fall was an easy way out. Some hard racing today already.

First hour was brutal- echelons, Bernal accidentally got in a break, inneos tried to split it but all GC names were up front, constant failed attacks.. was an ideal time to be doing my intervals, much motivation!

Just watched the official highlights of stage 8
Maybe one for the wtf thread? Zero takeaway apart from knowing who won
They said he went back to report his mechanical (a broken saddle). But he was still riding so it's going to be a race director decision, so he might lose time.
