    I do have some experience of working with insurers and am pretty sure they wouldn't risk chalking up a £1.3m liability to dispute £75k. Insurance policies aren't a blank check to pursue litigation against people - you might be able to get specific litigation insurance, but that isn't cheap.

    I don't know how liability or indemnity at a huge organisational/union level works. As UNITE also have their own political insurance / libaility division wasn't sure if there was perhaps special measures in place or some sort of contingency for this sort of situation. Hard to find a precedent for this, other than Unite Twitter going ham on the "how dare Len spend my subs".
