New bike is up and running. Needs better photos, summer wheels and an out front mount.

rare instance a fussy "custom bike paint job" looks really great, nice build to pair with it too!

Holy Christ that's nice, I can't stop looking at it. I'd ride that so hard

• #128707
Yeah I’m usually not keen on paint like that - this just works somehow!

Verry nice bike !

Happy is definitely the word for it!

Worth noting that it’s new to me rather than new. Thanking LFGSS for the excellent response to my wanted ad for a ‘nice steel frame’. Paint is probably a bit more out there than I’d have gone with/could afford but really like it now that its built up
Nicer pictures from when it was new 5 or so years ago https://www.saffronframeworks.com/build/matthews-race-bike/

Has that frame been shelved for the last 5 years ago? If so you're a lucky guy

Highly appealing

It’s got a couple of chips here and there but don’t think it’s had a huge amount of use

Love that, nice work.

Second of the new bike days in our house. Columbus SL something or other frame recently refurbed by Bob Jackson. Might need to start a new thread for this one as it’ll probably be 1x with a thumb shifter and I’ve got no clue about anything pre 10 speed

Muddy Fox Trailblazer Aluminium. Super fun! Not quite finished: could use a nicer stem and seatpost, and I'm reminded how superlatively awful cantilever brakes are. If I can fit mini-Vs around the tyres, perhaps a better option.

really like that

Thanks! I'd been looking for a canti / V-brake frame to fit wider tyres for ages, so I was pretty happy to find this on eBay. It isn't a boat anchor, either, which is a bonus - Tange cromo forks, alu frame.
(Edit: reply fail)

Didn't know these existed! Very cool.
Interesting groupset situation. This combination just works like that?

It does! Campy 10-speed brifters pull the right amount of cable, when used with an "Exact Actuation" Sram derailleur, to work with a 10-speed Shimano or Sram cassette. The brifter's cable pull varies very slightly across the gears, whereas the cassette spacing is constant, but the variation isn't enough to cause any problems. I used a 9-speed Shimergo setup for years, and this is just as good.
It's all done for cost - Campy shifters are cheaper than Shimano, Sram derailleurs are cheaper than Campy, and Shimano cranks are cheaper than either.
