  • Oof 👌 they’re awesome 👍🏻

  • Yeh they came out great. Shoe healer in Doncaster sorted them, they might have a few pairs left.

  • So I went and tried a couple of different styles, I thought I was after the Craftsman but found I much preferred the Comfort Turnout.

Factory seconds, there was a very visible dent and scuff on the right toe of the pair I liked and they were only A$150 off list price so I swerved. Very, very comfortable tho', slipper-like! I may just pay full whack...

Gonna see if I can try a few other brands before I make up my mind. Also tried a pair of very cheap Hush Puppies at another shop, I would've been quite happy with those if they'd been a little narrower... They squelched my feet out a bit...

The R.M. Williams Comfort Turnouts are very nice tho', they have a lovely rounded shape to the toe. Very pretty.

  • Makes for a very different shoe from my Redbacks with that leather sole, really snazzy.

  • Please explain to the idiot in the room who has just tuned in and really likes those boots, were they repaired or fitted with a new sole?

  • Assuming a leather sole, how will they work in the rain? Day one, falls on arse. Day ten, wet feet.

  • & @withered_preacher:
The boots I tried on had a rubber sole, felt good... I think I'll go that way, my leather soled Weejuns are a bit of a PITA in the wet and even on some shiny surfaces...

  • Go for it! As they're work shoes you can justify as an investment in yourself

  • And I can claim the tax back on them!!

  • They were a a group made to order by tricker’s. A guy on style forum designed the spec and shoe healer managed payments and shipping. Drop shoe healer an email if interested they may have your size left. Price is the same as regular Tricker’s boots 🙂

  • Just watched a muscly bloke repair shoes for 40 minutes

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiQR4kSMxMo

  • That shoe repairers -if the one near the entrance with the sheep on it to the market -are quality repairers. LOVE trickers as if it were their own

  • Talk to me about shoes for work.

I've never gone beyond buying Clarks. I'm a teacher so about 50% of my working day is spent pacing around.

My current pair is looking quite haggard but I don't know what to do next.

    State sector budget.

  • Desert boots

  • Surprised they aren’t part of the uniform.

  • It's full suit rather than tweed and elbow patches (unfortunately).

Since moving there I've had to go from Corbyn chic to New Labour.

  • That’s weird, I live in Tring and have been in there a few times, had no idea he was a youtoober. Might have to get him to resuscitate an old pair of Church’s.

  • Get some Loakes from the shop on strutton ground. They’re great, don’t know why they don’t get more love

  • Loake 771 could be a good transition from Clark’s to more formal shoes, can wear with jeans, come in suede, oxblood etc... https://loakefactoryshop.co.uk/shop/771-dark-brown-suede/
Otherwise take a look at Grenson

  • Prices in that shop are always good

  • They're smart

  • Yeah they're comfortable too... rumour has it that this model are made in the UK...
@tbc I've only seen the oxblood ones with leather soles so what out for that - I think the suede and black leather come in a full Dainite sole as well, and two width fittings, wide and really wide... (I think you'd have to go looking to find the really wide if required)

  • I've tried to move away from Clarks for work shoes quite often but have never found anything as comfortable. I have a variety of Church's, Loakes, Grensons, etc and none are comfortable enough to be on my feet walking for a substantial amount of time.

  • I've only ever had Clarks desert boots, which are hell to break in then fantasticly comfortable, then sloppy and made my feet ache and once the sole is past a certain point its like walking on soap when the floor is wet... upgraded to Sanders creepers for my crepe needs which are excellent out of the box

  • Yeah, those soles on Clark's desert boots are lethal when worn. I nearly killed myself on some wet york stone wearing them. Put me off them forever more.
