Mine grinder and machine sit on a piece of green slate (that's not the worktop) - most of that ^^^marking is natural colour not coffee! Thats only because I had a right sized offcut though and thought it looked nice.
I've seen people use coffee shop style large knock boxes before - but even if you put them 'on' something, you're just going to have to clean that, why not a worktop that is already designed to be easily cleaned?
