Think I may have a lettuce seedling. Get the feeling I won’t be placing in the competition.

People, fire, beers and music last night...
What’s the deal with socialising on allotments? We stayed til 11ish, music but not taking the piss at all. Houses bounding the site are all pretty rough so doubt anyone will complain...

We're not allowed fires April - Oct but can have bbq's. I'm not keen on playing music at the plot myself, it is an escape so I prefer the kind of peace and quiet we get. Local residents sometimes have tunes on though, there was a good house set being played out in the sunshine a few weeks back, Liquid - Sweet Harmony was a highlight.

We were the only people on the allotment aside from the super chilled stoner dude who just listens to cricket and gets high. He reckoned we’d be fine if we left by 11. He’s had his plot 10yrs so assumed he knew the score.
I don’t do music there during the day while people are around and working cos yeah that’s a bit presumptuous. All the houses around had music going last night so figured it’d be ok.
No doubt our fire rules are the same so I prob shouldn’t have done that but will be sure to hurry up and build a grill setup for the fire pit.

In Lewisham we aren't allowed fires due to COVID restrictions currently. We're also not allowed to bring guests onsite at the moment either.
Definitely worth being sure what the committee think, one of my neighbours nearly got booted by the for breaking the rules in lockdown.

Ah right, will be sure to check and keep it on the down low. We certainly weren’t allowed guests at the end of last year but others have def had mates round now and again over the last few weeks. No one was there past 7 so I think we’ll be ok.
It seems to be a fairly relaxed site and still some derelict plots despite the wait list so it’s unlikely anyone is particularly proactive on the committee... -

Salad bar in. Have also done some gap filling here and there with herbs to hopefully keep some weeds at bay.
Still struggling to get much germination on my peppers and toms. Have been gifted some tom plants by a neighbour so at least we’ve got those.I can’t decide if I want to landscape the back where I just cleared so I can put more compost heaps in next or focus on getting more beds in.

I'd get beds in now, as you can worry about composting when everything is in the ground growing - you won't need much composting until the summer.

I’m trying to just have perennial veg in our plot. The next thing I’m after is good king henry

Can we talk hot composting?
Mine is starting to get up to tempterature and feeling pretty warm. It’s also getting full so do I leave it a couple of weeks to fully decompose or take some out and leave some in a la sourdough starter?
Oh and it stinks. Feels like Glastonbury every time I go into the garage.

Simon recently turned our compost bin over, Glastonbury was exactly the word I used to describe the smell

I know nothing about hot composting, but I would leave it until it fully decomposes. I've had a load of manure rotting down over the last year or so and the difference in decomposition since it's been warmer is incredible.
Just waiting for our chips to be delivered
