Around 10 months ago I was without a road bike. I wanted something different, something steel, and got a pretty good deal on a 2020 Cinelli Vigorelli Road. Since the bike was OTP, I changed as much as I could quickly finding out how shit stock parts are (only the second bike I bought brand new.) So originally I was going to start a CP thread for the Cinelli but the bike never truly felt right.
Then I got thinking about the next bike. At the end of the day I want a good looking bike. I ride a fair amount but nothing too crazy. So it also needs to be comfortable and ride relatively fast. I probably should've just gone back to a carbon race bike but that felt boring. Not to mention I can't stand the aesthetics of modern aero and dick brakes. Well I really miss my sparkly keirin bike but fixed wasn't practical. A custom road frame from a Japanese builder has been a dream for the last 5 years but an unrealistic one at the moment. Then I started thinking about Rychtarski. But wait, what if I build this mad custom steel bike and I don't end up liking it. Better try something out first in case things don't work out.
and then I saw the Rossin -
yeah it's mad, blue paint with green / gold flakes. Looks mostly green but really depends on angle. Proper photos are required to do it justice, see build here https://www.lfgss.com/comments/13329208/
Columbus SLX tubing, unique bb shell. Campagnolo Chorus 8 Speed. Mavic MA3 rims on Campag hubs. Modolo bars and stem. Old kalloy aero seatpost. Stamped 56cm. Condition isn't too bad either.
Quickly changed saddle, tried to get my position roughly correct and went out for 30 mins. I think the size works. Groupset was fine actually, I'm considering keeping it for now but I might have to change the chainset to accommodate my power meter. Stem length needs to change and I would love a Cinelli Grammo but probably will settle for a 1A, open to suggestions on quill stems. Bars are too wide and not keen on the shape. This was my first time riding a classic drop? with the shifters lower down on the bars. I think it looks better on this frame vs compact drops with shimano shifters. My wrists were angled down more than I'm used to, so I'll have to experiment with that. I use a Selle SMP so seatpost will probably be a silver Thomson elite. Pedals will be changed to speedplays. King cages going on too. Wheels are a tough one, I would love Shamal tubs or a modern equivalent (if that exists?) I have some 40mm carbon tubs but I think black rims might look wrong with every other component being silver.
That's all I can think of for now, any input is appreciated. This bike deserves a solid build and to be ridden properly. More to come soon.
